Robert Vern Hursey

Robert "Bob" Hursey was born in Chicago, IL. He grew up in the southwest suburbs of the Worth- Palos area and resided there until his early adult years. Not long after his marriage to Connie, his wife of 61 years, and the birth of their first child, the family relocated to Chattanooga, TN in 1969. Bob enjoyed the last 22 years residing at his house in Harrison, prior to his passing.

Bob is a veteran of the US Army. While in the military he trained as a USATC radio operator and received a National Defense Service Medal for rifle sharpshooter.

During high school, Bob worked in the audio division of a major department store in Chicago. Throughout his early adult years, he worked as a tool and die maker, a mechanic, an electrician, and caretaker for a Christian summer camp program. While he truly was a skilled 'jack of all trades', his love for water and boats is what led him into the marine service industry. Bob went on to become the owner of well-known business Sportsman Marine, servicing the marine industry for 44 years in the Chattanooga, TN and surrounding areas.

Bob was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Harrison, TN. In 1976, he initiated the tape/audio ministry as well as other areas of service. He appreciated Christian music/programming and enjoyed being part of a way to share that with others.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Arvelle Hursey, grandparent Frank Weaver, two uncles, Bud Weaver, Ralph Hursey, and Aunt Ruth Johnson.

Survived by his wife Connie, three children Darlene (Joel) Weisskopf, Paul (Megan) Hursey, Bryan (Adriana) Hursey, grandchildren Joshua Weisskopf, Nathan (Foster) Weisskopf, brother Mike (Pam) Hursey and many cousins and their families.

Services will be Saturday, June 21. 2025, at Lakewood Baptist Church. The family will welcome friends 10:30-12:30 with funeral services to immediately follow. Pastor Ronnie Gilbert officiating. Bob will be laid to rest, with Military Honors, at Chattanooga National Cemetery, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 10:00.
