Robert Hutchens

Robert Glenn Hutchens, age 72, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on January 21, 2026, in La Porte.

He was born on August 31, 1953, in Logansport, Indiana.

To his family and friends, he was known simply as Bob. Bob spent the last twenty years of his life in La Porte after many years living throughout the country. He left Indiana in his early twenties and lived in numerous places, including Florida, North Carolina, Texas, Arizona, and Colorado, reflecting a life shaped by independence and a love of freedom. During those years, Bob made his work as an artist using glass as his medium. After returning to La Porte and settling into a more stable chapter, Bob worked at the Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, Michigan, in banquet setup and janitorial services. With his familiar, often self-deprecating sense of humor, he liked to joke that he had finally learned how to make money at a casino - by going to work for one. Bob was the father of three sons, Jon, Joshua, and Jeremiah. While his life often took him in different directions, he was proud of his sons and spoke of them with affection.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stewart Hutchens and Lorene Hutchens, and by his sister, Lorrie Grover Hutchens.

Bob is survived by his sons, Jon, Joshua, and Jeremiah; and by his siblings, Christine West (Ron), Cheryl Hutchens, Stewart Hutchens, Steven Hutchens (Irina), and Carrie Jones.

Less than two years ago, Bob was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He faced his illness with quiet courage, maintained his sense of humor to the end, and accepted his fate with grace, believing in something beyond this life.

Cremation will take place. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, (219) 362-3100 is caring for the arrangements. A memorial gathering will be held on February 21 at 12:00 p.m. at Springville Community Church, 5244 State Road 39, La Porte, Indiana 46350.
