Robert Indyk Obituary

Robert Peter Indyk

Easthampton, MA - Robert P. Indyk passed away peacefully on January 7th 2025, surrounded by family at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.

Although he was known for his sense of humor, which he displayed up until his final moments, Rob also had a strong sense of family. Whether it was being the maestro of his family's holiday pierogi traditions or watching football from his recliner, rubbing his hands together to get everyone to pay attention, Rob loved the company of his family, and his family will miss his presence greatly.

Rob was born and raised in Syracuse, NY on December 29th 1942. He attended Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, NY and later attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. The final stop along Rob's educational journey was in what he would sarcastically call the lovely state of Iowa, where he graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport.

In Easthampton, MA Rob set up shop as "Indyk Chiropractic" working as a Chiropractor for over 40 years. It didn't matter how much time passed between his patient's appointments, Rob never forgot them, and took great pride in his healing power.

The halls of Rob's business, office, and home were covered in numerous framed paintings of beautiful natural landscapes and scenic views with Native American inspiration, bearing a signature in the corner that read "R.P. Indyk". As an exceptional artist with a knack for instruction, Rob taught art classes at the hill institute in Northampton, introducing others to the magic of the brush and canvas.

Rob loved to Sail and even built his own sailboat at 16 years old.

Despite never having played hockey in his youth, he decided he wanted to play goalie in a men's hockey league and did so for several years.

Rob once became so determined to learn the boot-scoot-boogie line dance that he took lessons at 50 years old, dancing with his wife as his partner up to 4 times a week.

Rob is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gail Indyk, who has been the steadfast angel at his side for the entirety of his adult years and was the unwavering love of his life.

He is also survived by his children Tracey Scalzo of Florence; Eric Indyk and his wife Tracy Indyk of Easthampton; His Grandchildren Nicholas Zapka and his wife Amanda Zapka of Leominster; Alexander Indyk-Zapka and his wife Nadia Indyk-Zapka of Northampton; Carly Scalzo; Anthony Scalzo; Chelsea Indyk; Chris Millette and his wife Hannah Tosi of Wendell; Jacqueline McDonald and her husband William McDonald of Westford; and his great-grandchildren Lily Zapka, Leon Zapka, Kaia Zapka, Miriam Millette, Charlotte McDonald, and Grant McDonald

An announcement for services will be forthcoming and the family plans to arrange a celebration of life for this upcoming spring.

Rob and Gail were like a second set of parents to me for many years. He was a generous and loving father with a wicked wit and sense of humor with a laugh I can still hear. My heart aches and send deepest sympathy to Gail,
Tracy and Eric. I love you all.

I was in Rob's art classes at the Hill Institute for years. He was a great teacher!
I remember his puns some of which were real groaners but I could not help laughing at them. Terry Barton
