With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert Johnson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who departed this life peacefully on December 31, 2024, at the age of 98.
Born on January 28, 1926, in Buffalo, New York, Robert was a pillar of strength, resilience, and love. From humble beginnings, he lived a life grounded in hard work and determination, becoming a true embodiment of the American Dream. At the age of 19, Robert proudly served his country by joining the Army Air Forces in 1944, demonstrating his unwavering patriotism. After his military service, he began a successful career with the New York Telephone Company, later transferring to Southern Bell. His work eventually brought him to Jacksonville, Florida, and later to Miami, where he served as the District Traffic Manager for South Florida. Robert retired at the age of 55, leaving a legacy of commitment and excellence in his professional life.
Robert married his soulmate, Catherine, with whom he shared 65 extraordinary years of marriage. Their enduring partnership remains an inspiring testament to love, loyalty, and devotion. Together, they raised six children and built a family legacy filled with laughter, love, and countless cherished memories.
Preceded in joining the Lord: his beloved Catherine; their firstborn, Judy Freeby; Judy's husband, Steven Freeby; his granddaughter, Alisha Johnson; and many cherished family and friends who shared in his remarkable journey.
An active and passionate man, Robert played his favorite sport, racquetball, until the incredible age of 96, a testament to his vitality and zest for life. Robert's life was a celebration of family. His greatest pride and joy came from his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether hosting lively family gatherings or sharing quiet, heartfelt moments, Robert had a gift for making everyone feel deeply loved and valued.
Known for his wisdom, wit, and unwavering kindness, Robert was a storyteller, a mentor, and a source of comfort and strength to those around him. His presence was a beacon of stability and love, leaving a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Robert is survived by his children, Robert Johnson Jr. (Debbie), David Johnson (Jackie), Mary Daes, (Erick) John Johnson, (Kelly) and Michael Johnson (Karen); his 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, who carry forward his spirit and legacy; and countless friends and loved ones who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
