Robert "Mike" Johnson, 75, of Joplin, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025. He was born on February 27, 1950 in Joplin, Missouri to Robert G. and Ruth Johnson.
Mike graduated from McAuley Catholic High School in 1968 and attended MSSC. Mike was in the grocery business for 45 years beginning in 1971 at Consumers Markets as the meat department manager and retired from Price Cutter in 2016.
Mike was a member of the Joplin Masonic Lodge #335, York Rite, Knights Templar, Scottish Rite, lifetime member of the Joplin Shrine Club serving as Rajah in 1989 where he was also past secretary, and charter member and Captain of the Joplin Shrine Rodeo Clowns. Mike became involved in the Joplin Elks Club and served as Exalted Ruler in 2004. Mike and his wife Nancy loved to spend their time at the Elks and never missed a dance. Country dancing was their favorite thing. He was a fantastic wood carver of Santas and loved to fish and play golf. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mike married the love of his life Nancy L. Retherford in 1972 who proceeded him to heaven in 2017. Together, Mike and Nancy are survived by their daughter, Stephanie McGrew and her husband Adam and their son Braden. Also surviving is his brother, David Johnson and his wife Kathleen as well as in-laws, David and Kathy Retherford and Ron and Linda Mathes and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mike are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin with Father Joseph Weidenbenner officiating.
Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary on Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 pm.
Arrangements are under the direct care of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, MO.
