Robert J. Joynes, MD, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected internist, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born on January 16, 1947, in Philadelphia, PA, Bob lived a life marked by dedication, love, and appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He earned his bachelor's degree in biology from Villanova University in 1968, followed by his medical degree from Hahnemann University in 1972. In 1975, he became board certified in internal medicine, beginning a career defined by compassion and dedication.
Bob valued hard work and compassion which defined him both professionally and personally. He carried these values into his marriage with his loving wife, Linda. Bob and Linda met at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, where he was completing his internship and she was working as a registered nurse. Together, they moved to New Jersey, where Bob began establishing the roots of his medical practice and they began their family life.
As a father, Bob was a guiding light to his children: Robert Joynes (wife Greta), Christopher Joynes (wife Sarah), and Kathleen Joynes. Bob took immense pride in their accomplishments, encouraging them in academics and sports, and was a constant presence on the sidelines of soccer, baseball, and softball games. His joy extended to his grandchildren-Emma, Maddie, Abby, Gavin, Tessa, Audrey, and Hadley-who lovingly called him Pop. He cherished playing games with them, watching their sporting events, and hearing about their latest adventures.
Professionally, Bob was a pillar of the Haddonfield community, where he ran a successful private practice as an internist. He served on the staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for 39 years, including as Division Chief of the Department of Medicine, a role he held with great pride. He also served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University from 1978 to 2007. His patients and colleagues admired him for his empathetic approach, respectful care, and unwavering commitment to their well-being.
In his free time, Bob enjoyed reading, listening to music, and running. He loved the ocean and treasured family vacations to the Jersey Shore. A passionate Villanova basketball fan, Bob never missed a March Madness, and he loyally supported the Phillies, 76ers, and Eagles. He was a man of simple joys, known for his kind heart, good humor, and ability to brighten others' days with his jokes and stories.
Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on October 18, 2025 from 9:30-11:00 AM at The Catholic Church of St. Mary, 2001 Springdale Rd, Cherry Hill, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Saturday at the church. Inurnment will be private.
