Robert “Bob” Kennedy, age 89, of Moorhead, MN passed away on September 1, 2020 at Essentia Health, Fargo.
Robert Duane Kennedy was born on November 17, 1930 in Wahpeton, ND, to Vernon and Jessie (Howie) Kennedy. Bob graduated from Fergus Falls High School and North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton. Bob was in the National Guard from 1946 to 1949 when he entered the Army, serving during the Korean War as a topographical engineer. In 1950, he married Lorna Bergerson in San Francisco where they started their family. After his honorable discharge in 1952, they returned to the Midwest, living in Wahpeton and later settling in Dilworth. They had six sons. Over the years, Bob worked for several local construction companies including Jackson Company, Harry Arneson Construction, GB Haug Construction, and Anda Construction. He also worked on the Garrison Dam for the Army Corp of Engineers. Bob married Carol Malstrom in 1972 in Moorhead and welcomed her two sons to the family. He began working for Amerland Real Estate where he was an appraiser and broker. In the early 1980s, he started “Bob Kennedy Appraisals Inc” which he ran with Carol as his bookkeeper until he retired in 2015.
Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, doing projects with his sons and square dancing with Carol. He had a strong faith in God and was very involved with Trinity Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the MN Association of Realtors Board, MN Better Business Bureau, Board of Directors for the Clay County Historical Society, National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers and Realtors, Moorhead American Legion Post #21, spent 20 years with the Boy Scouts of America, and was involved with many other organizations over the years.
Bob is survived by his wife, Carol Kennedy of Moorhead; five sons, Bob of Eugene, OR, Ronald (Melissa) of Fosston, MN, Rick (Kathy) of Detroit Lakes, MN, Keith (Juanita) of Moorhead, and Kurt of Hawley, MN; two stepsons, Jeff Danielson of Lake Mills, WI, and Scott (Miriam) Danielson of Fargo; 13 grandchildren, Marielle, Jared, Seth, Alicia, Amanda, Kaitlyn, Austin, Kendra, Amy, Derek, Dillon, Naomi, and Racheal; four great-grandchildren, Lexi, Zayden, Malaina, and Mason; brother, Russ (Lois) Kennedy; and sister, Donna Miller.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Kennedy; three grandchildren, Bryce Kennedy, Shannon Kennedy, and Jacob Kennedy ; and brother, Jimmy Kennedy.
A public visitation will be held on Friday, September 4 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead. Masks are required and social distancing will be observed. The funeral will be private on Saturday, September 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead with a live stream starting at 1:00 P.M. on Bob’s obituary page on the funeral home website. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
