Robert Klingenberg Obituary

Robert F. Klingenberg, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, & genuinely described as the sweetest man, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Born January 19, 1934, he was the son of the late Irvin and Mildred Klingenberg. Bob was the proud namesake of Bob's Variety Store, which was the staple of the center of the Town of Hampstead for 40 years. (1960-2000) At Bob's, he was the person who would get all the hanging baskets down for you from the high spots during the spring, greet you at all the holidays, chat with you on the sidewalk or wave from his office that overlooked the store. He was always there for his loyal customers and enjoyed his family being a part of the business throughout the 40 years. His biggest joy was being a husband to his late wife Sue for 52 years & being a Dad & Pop-Pop. From going on family vacations & having swim parties to always supporting his family in all their endeavors many which was being a coach for them when they played little league, watching tennis matches and all their high school sports, helping them build & fix everything at their houses as he was a true handyman & always insisted on fixing everything himself. He loved watching his history shows, eating desserts, & playing softball. And later he enjoyed helping on Susan's farm. He is survived by his son Rob of Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Trish and Rick Cummings of Pennsylvania; son and daughter-in law, Larry and Robin of South Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Teri of Hampstead, MD.; and daughter, Susan of Virginia. Known as "Pop-Pop", he had seven grandchildren, Sgt. Denny & wife Ryan Strevig of North Carolina, Jonathan and wife Jocelynn of Virginia, JT Cummings of Pennsylvania, Josh and wife Taylor of South Carolina, Jayce Lang and husband Stephen of New Windsor, MD, Josey, and Jackson of Hampstead, MD. He had four great-grandchildren, Avery, Halen, & Alexandra Strevig, & Cal Klingenberg. He was predeceased by brothers, Roy, sisters Dorothy Ariko and Audrey Koeniger, & daughter-in-law Jane. The family will receive friends on Tuesday April 29th at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead , MD., from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church where he was a member, located at 3071 Park Avenue in Manchester, MD. (Historic location), on Wednesday April 30th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his honor to Susan's nonprofit who her Dad was very much a part of when he was able, Little Buckets Farm Sanctuary (https://www.littlebucketsfarmsanctuary.org/ )

Dear Klingenberg Family,
Bob was such a dear person and a lot of fun. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, ball playing and other activities we did at Inspirations. He was always wanting to lend a helping hand. Such a nice man. We miss him dearly. RIP Bob.

My condolences to Bob's loved ones. We rented our first apartment from Bob. To this day we still talk about what a kind person Bob was and a great landlord.

To the Klingenberg family
I am sorry for the loss of your family member. Mr. Bob was a good man. I enjoyed going to his store Bob´s variety when I was growing up and I went to school with Susan.

I remember shopping at Bob's. Plus I rented an apartment in Taneytown from him. A great person, who will be missed by all that knew him.
