Robert John Knight

ROBERT JOHN KNIGHT was born on October 17, 1945, in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was raised in a Christian home and began his education alongside his three older sisters at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School, while also beginning his faith journey at Third Baptist Church. In December 1954, the family relocated to Columbus, Ohio, where John completed his education in Columbus Public Schools, graduating from Central High School in 1963.
John was an independent, vibrant, and dedicated student. He began his professional career at the newly opened Columbus Plaza, later known as the Sheraton Columbus Hotel. During the Vietnam War, John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served honorably for three years in Okinawa, Japan. After completing his tour of duty, he returned to Columbus and resumed his career with the Columbus Sheraton Hotel, serving as Banquet Manager until its closure in 1987. He later joined Columbus Public Schools, where he worked faithfully for 20 years until his retirement.
A towering presence with a gentle spirit, Robert John Knight passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. He lived a full and meaningful life as a devoted father, brother, uncle, family member, and friend. Always quick with a smile or kind word, John had a gift for making people laugh. His strong work ethic, legendary attention to detail, and pride in leaving others satisfied defined both his personal and professional life.
John had a deep love for music and sports. His passion for jazz and R&B was reflected in his extensive music collection, and one of his greatest joys was turning up the stereo. And let's not forget, he was also a diehard Michigan Wolverines fan!
Welcoming him home are his mother, Thelma Knight; grandparents, Tommy and Jenny Knight; sister, Edythe Knight; nieces, Dreanette Knight and Tanya Smith Knight; great-nephew, Kevin Knight, Jr.; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
John's true legacy lies in the countless lives he touched with kindness, laughter, and love. He leaves this legacy to his loving and devoted family.
