Robert LaFountain Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Potere-Modetz Funeral Home - Rochester on Jan. 31, 2026.
Robert Henry LaFountain, age 93, of Rochester, Michigan, passed away peacefully in hospice care on January 28, 2026. Bob was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Bob was born on April 20, 1932, in River Rouge, Michigan. He owned his own business for many years installing car washes before later working as a mechanical engineer at Automotive Products USA. Through his engineering career, Bob held numerous patents, a testament to his ingenuity and dedication.

Bob was an incredible storyteller, often embellishing his tales to the nth degree. He was exceptionally gifted artistically-drawing in pencil, painting in oils, and carving beautiful wood figures and scenes. His sketch pad was rarely far from his side.

A devoted history buff, Bob had a deep passion for genealogy. He shared this interest by writing a family newsletter for many years titled "Picking and Digging." Bob also loved to travel, with Montana holding a special place in his heart. One particularly memorable family trip was spending Christmas together in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Bob was a regular attendee at both Paint Creek United Methodist Church and Abiding Presence Lutheran Church, where he found community and spiritual connection.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Reva, who inspired him to reach his greatest potential; his children, James, Sherry, and Michelle; and his stepchildren, Michael, Leonard, and Trish. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Amy, Nathanial, Julia, Matthew, Robert, Kelly, Melissa, Amanda, Megan, Adam, Scott, Rachel, John, Zachary, Joe, Patrick, Joshua, Jamie, and Dylan; as well as twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lenore; his sister, Elaine; his son, Robert; and his grandson, Seth.

Cremation arrangements were provided by Potere-Modetz Funeral Home. Bob's remains will be distributed in Hyalite Canyon, Montana. A memorial service will be held at Paint Creek United Methodist Church in June 2026.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Bob's memory be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind.
