Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ferguson Funeral Home - Plain City on Sep. 13, 2025.
Robert Mack Lane, 94, finished his earthly race and met his Savior face to face in the early hours of Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Heritage Senior Living in
Plain City, Ohio while accompanied by loving family.
Mack, as he was known, was born to the late O'Conley and Bonnie (Donelson) Lane on April 30, 1931 in Fort Blackmore, Virginia. He enlisted in the United States Army
immediately after high school and served in the Korean War, where he earned the Bronze Star for Valor in combat. After leaving military service, Mack moved to Dayton, Ohio where he married Margaret Jean Lane, also of Fort Blackmore, Virginia. Mack worked for Frigidaire, Delco Air, and Harrison Radiator divisions of General Motors and retired after 33 years of service.
Mack and Jean raised their family in Springboro, Ohio, then moved back to Scott County, Virginia, for most of their retirement. Mack was a skilled carpenter and a talented singer. He loved to lead singing at church, and often traveled to sing with friends in a gospel quartet. He was known for a wonderful sense of humor and careful attention to detail. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, "Papaw," great-grandfather, and uncle. He made friends wherever he went. He loved God, his family, and his country. He rejoiced in truth and did not condone evil. In a world of chaos and confusion, he kept a clear head and strong character.
Mack was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Jean Lane; his parents; his brothers, Bill and Ralph Lane; and his sister, Mary Eyler.
He is survived by his daughter, Robyn (Bob) Cornett, and his sons, Rick Lane and Todd (Barb) Lane. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sarah (Wil) Sanchez, Liza (Tim)
Glenn, Jake (Amanda) Lane, and Cody (Amanda) Lane; as well as his great-grandchildren and bonus great-grandchildren, Dean, Aurelia, Jane, Darla, Trinity, Brayden, Trenton, Lorelei, Jarrett, Jesse, Bobby, Charlotte, and Colton.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 A. M. with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 A.M. at Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St.,
Plain City, Ohio. A graveside service with military honors will take place the same day at 3:00 P.M. at Miami Valley Memory Gardens, 1639 East Lytle Five Points Rd.,
Centerville, Ohio.
