It is with deep sorrow the family of Robert Wayne Lattin, known by most as "Bob", announces his passing on December 21, 2025, in Florida, at the age of 83 after a life well lived.
Bob was born in
Alhambra, California in 1942 joining his two older brothers, Bill and Jim, his mother, Gladys and his father Ralph. When Bob was three years old his father was tragically killed in a train accident. Gladys went on to marry Maurice "Covie" Covington, who raised the boys as his own children. Bob went on to graduate from the prestigious Harvey Mudd College and entered the world of accounting starting at PricewaterhouseCoopers and later becoming CFO of Universal/MCA. Bob married Karen shortly after college and they had two sons together Wayne (age 59) and David (age 55.) In 1993, Robert married Loretta, and they enjoyed sharing their joyful life together until Loretta's passing of lung cancer in 1996. At that time, Bob became father and single parent to Monica (40), Loretta's daughter, whom he lovingly raised as his own. In 1998 he married Linda Beissert, who brought two sons, Chris and Eric, into the family. Bob and Linda traveled and celebrated their Lutheran faith together. Bob volunteered as usher and Treasurer at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He was Linda's sole, loving caregiver throughout her long lung cancer journey, until her passing on June 28, 2025. Shortly after Linda's passing, Bob suffered a stroke and was being cared for by his three children. He worked hard and courageously to recover from the injury. However, after many setbacks during the following six months, his body could not fight any longer and he passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones on December 21st.
Robert enjoyed living life to the fullest: from fishing in Cabo to catching salmon in Alaska, adventuring through the Amazon and Australia, cruising the Mississippi or making his way down the Panama Canal, even taking a three-month road trip taking in all the sights the United States could offer, he loved adventuring and finding new places to explore. Although perhaps his favorite place to find peace was to be anywhere near a body of water, large or small.
Robert leaves behind his three children, Wayne (Karen), David (Val), and Monica. Two stepsons Chris (Polly) and Eric (Barb.) Bob was a loving grandfather to Ethan (Wayne and Karen), Grace (David and Val), Anna/Kanan (Chris and Polly), and Katelyn/Paige/Evan (Eric and Barb.)
Bob will be forever remembered for his trustworthiness, financial acumen, steadfastness, determination, incredible intelligence, whit, and love for his family. His laughter and wisdom were gifts to everyone who knew him. Few could forget how charismatic and strong-willed (some might say stubborn) he was. Bob always looked for the good in people and made friends wherever he went. He would often be people's first call when they needed advice and council especially pertaining to financial matters. His integrity was unwavering, one of Bob's favorite sayings was, "The truth will set you free."
He will be forever missed but we know he is safely in the arms of the Lord.
Memorial service to be held later in 2026, when the family can get together in San Diego to celebrate and honor his life.
