Robert Dean Lauer, 82, of Lehigh, Iowa passed away Wednesday morning December 31, 2025 at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Pastor Kay. Christie will officiate. A luncheon will be served in fellowship hall immediately following the service. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh at 12:30 p.m. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 6, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the United Methodist Church. Robert Dean Lauer was born on May 3, 1943 in Fort Dodge, Iowa the son of Donald and Mary (Dean) Lauer. He attended school in Burnside and Callender. Robert graduated with Callender High School class of 1962.

On September 21, 1968 Robert was united in marriage to Joan O'Hearn at Immaculate Conception Church in Lehigh, Iowa. They were blessed with one son, Patrick.

Robert began working for Webster County Secondary Road Department in 1966. He retired in 2023, having been employed by Webster County for 57 years.

Robert enjoyed attending farm machinery auctions, especially in Pocahontas. He could also be found in Humboldt most every Sunday there was an auction being held there. Stratford was another favorite auction destination.

Robert was a lifelong fan of and participant in the sport of Rodeo. He began rodeoing as a young child. In his high school and adult years, he won several saddles and belt buckles - especially in bull riding and bulldogging. He was a member of the Dayton Wrangler Saddle Club, having served several years on the celebration committee for the annual Labor Day Rodeo. In 2023 he was Grand Marshall of the Dayton Rodeo.

Survivors include his son, Patrick, of Lehigh; sisters-in-law Sharon O'Hearn Hrubes (Dave); Beverly O'Hearn both of Lehigh; Diane Lauer of Atlantic, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joan; two brothers, Leroy Eugene and Donald Keith; sisters-in-law Pat Lauer; Coral O'Hearn and Patricia "Patty" Dellachiesa; brothers-in-law Paul O'Hearn; Dick Dellachiesa; Jack O'Hearn; and Joe Potter.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
