Robert W. Leonard, 78, of Salem went to his eternal home Nov. 4, 2025, at 8:20 a.m. his wife Vicki was holding his hand when he took his last breath, The Holy Spirit surrounded them both with comfort and peace.
Robert was born on June 16, 1947, in Salem, the son of Russell & Rosemary (Myers) Leonard. On Feb. 20, 1987, he married Vicki Brown, they lived through life's challenges for 40 years and were married for 38.
He is survived by his wife Vicki of Salem; daughter, Roseanna Kim; grandchildren, Justin, Marissa & Owen of West Virginia; bonus son, Jason Dhom of Salem; sister, Judy Owens of Indiana; and fur babies, Mia & Zepplin.
He was preceded in death by his mom & dad, Rosemary & Russell Leonard; son, David; grandpa, Robert Delaney; brothers, Dean & David Leonard; mother-in-law, Doris Schneider, and extended family & friends.
On July 23, 1995, Bob gave his life to the Lord & has loved Him with all his heart. Bob was a giving soul & had a big heart for children. He grew up around racetracks & spent many days and nights at Macon Speedway, which was owned by his uncle. He served his country from 1968 to 1974 during the Vietnam and Korea wars. He received a Purple Heart, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Army Commendation Drivers Badge. Bob retired from Nussbaum Trucking where he and Vicki drove OTR as a team for a year and a half. He was also a mechanic for several years. His greatest joy in life was his fur babies, cup of hot coffee or ice-cold tea, watching TV & teasing Vicki, and sharing stories of his childhood with his grandpa.
Giving a heartfelt thanks to the people who have gotten us through the challenges we've faced to the friends and family who continued praying, VA Medical at Mt. Vernon and Marion, nurses Alyssa and Robin, & NP "Dr." Bailey, also the sweet voices on the phone that assisted us, such as Teresa Guyer, these people have made us feel like we were the only client they had, Mederi Homecare, Sue that brought our meals no matter the weather, the churches of Salem for stepping up when Meals on Wheels was shut down, Radiology Team at Salem Township Hospital, Kerstin, who brightened Bob's weekly visit, the nurses at STH, EMTs who were so kind & compassionate, Medicine Shoppe- it's not just a drive-thru, it's the genuine concern they give, Kailia his caregiver who has become part of our family, SSM Hospice Team (God's lil' angels on earth), Dwayne and Linda for the tree ministry, and Crouse Funeral Home for their care during this time. We are grateful & blessed to know each one that touched our lives. I'm sure I forgot someone & I'm sorry but God will give you your crowns.
In keeping with Robert's wishes, there will be no services held. For those wishing to make a memorial contribution, those can be made to SSM Hospice and can be received at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem. Online condolences and memories can be left at www.CrouseFH.com.
