In Loving Memory
Robert Arthur Leuck
September 30, 1935-August 16, 2025
Robert Arthur Leuck was a son, husband, father, uncle, nephew, cousin, auto mechanic, Electrical Engineer, friend, school bus driver, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was born to Edna (Cole) Leuck and Arthur E. Leuck in New York City.
Bob met his wife, Terry, who was 63 years when Terry's family moved to City Island in Bronx, NY. He sat next to Terry in eighth grade. He hit the back of her hand with a ruler; it was love at first sight.
Bob and Terry eloped and were married on March 12, 1955. One week later they were married at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church on March 19, 1955.
Bob attended Christopher Columbus High School. He enrolled at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute for a short while but decided he would prefer to become an auto mechanic. Seeing the older workers at Edsall (where he was working) doing only oil changes and brake jobs convinced him he should go back to finish his Engineering degree. He graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in 1959, where he was enrolled in ROTC, and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the US Army. Bob was assigned to the 864th Engineer Battalion at Camp Wolters, Texas. Bob, Terry, and their three children moved to Texas while Bob completed his military assignment.
After a brief return to City Island, Bob's career moved them to Maryland in 1964, and to Great Falls, VA 1970. Bob and Terry had five children by this time. Bob ultimately retired from a position in the Federal Government with the Defense Communication Agency. He loved children and became a school bus driver for several years following his retirement from the government.
Bob is survived by his five children, all married: Fran (Pete), Rob (Vicki), Brian (Debbie), Daryl (Angela), and Kathy (Andrew). Bob and Terry instilled a deep faith, strong work ethic and a willingness to help others/contribute to common goals in each of their children.
Many family pictures show the joy and memories shared with 10 grandchildren: Peter Dillon, Jr. (Katie), Maureen Dillon Hunt (Lee), Jason Leuck (Fay), Kristen Leuck VanBramer (Eric), Curtis Leuck (Jescel), Jennifer Leuck Lang (Andrew), Lauren Leuck, Mason and Cole Leuck and Will Ditmore and 13 great-grandchildren: John, Owen and Andrew Dillon, Lawson, Dillon and Griffin Hunt, Leah and Dylan Leuck, Ryder Leuck, Barrett and Bella Van Bramer and Graham and Carter Lang. A favorite activity of grands and great grands with Bob was to watch him run his intricate HO gauge train system which engulfed the entire dining room.
Always the engineer, in his younger days, Bob was often helping build sandcastles in sand boxes with the grands. He also loved Legos building with his grands, and Q-B Marble maze. He loved sailing, and anything to do with water. He loved keeping in touch with friends via email. He loved playing sudoku, crossword puzzles and word play. He enjoyed comedies, sharing jokes with his friends and family and his Thursday night meetings. He was a Formula One fanatic, football fanatic (Go Redskins) and loved World Class sailing races. He was always conscious of his Weight Watchers numbers, and he was quite proud of walking a minimum of three miles a day, every day for 3 years.
He loved his cowboy hat (this is how the schoolchildren who rode his bus distinguished the correct bus), country music and John Wayne. He kept a compass in his car to ensure he never drove North again.
He was a Boy Scout Leader, active in the Knights of Columbus, and was a founding member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
His funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church 1020 Springvale Rd. Great Falls, VA 22066 on Friday, September 19th at 2 p.m., with a reception following at the church. Bob will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
