Robert Litzinger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Directors on Dec. 11, 2025.
Robert (Bob) Litzinger, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully at his home on December 9, 2025 at the age of 85. He was surrounded with his family during his last days, laughing and sharing memories.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jan, and his children; Becky (Paul) Henderson, Robin (John) Pancher, Lincoln, Rodney, Rae and Rory (Sandra) Litzinger along with sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Born March 1940 in Altoona Pennsylvania to Eugene and Rosella, he grew up as the only son with three sisters. He graduated from Altoona High with dreams of specializing in artistry wood working.

He met the love of his life, Jan, in fifth grade, pursuing her throughout their school days. They married in the spring of 1960 and they moved to south Florida to start their family.

Bob started his twenty-five-year career as a proud IBEW lineman for Florida Power & Light in Hollywood, Florida. After their sixth child was born, they moved to Deland for better school and career opportunities. Bob went to work at the Port Orange FL&P yard, where he remained until the end of his career climbing power poles.

Together he and Jan raised their children in Deland, building a quality and faithful life. Bob was committed to having excellent educational opportunities for his children, serving as an advisor in the PTA. That involvement included a stint as president. Bob spent many hours helping his kids with school work and school projects; putting those woodworking skills to good use, building floats for homecoming parades and more.

Bob's second act included starting a small business in downtown Deland called 'Tax Included'- a play on including tacks with every balloon gift. He was part of the downtown association for several years until he sold the business.

Bob and Jan enjoyed traveling and there were many trips back and forth to Pennsylvania where they maintained a second home for many years. Europe and Australia were a few favorite travel destinations. Another place he loved was Belize. He made several trips with friends, including a special 'guys' trip with his son Linc and son-in-law John. Bob and Jan also enjoyed the RV life, traveling around the USA in their fifth wheel, including several trips through Canada to Alaska to visit their daughter.

Bob was a master craftsman who could build/fix most anything. He renovated their Deland home, and, when they 'retired' and moved to Trenton Florida, he worked with a contractor friend on many homes in the Gilchrist area.

Their final move in Florida was to Astor Park. They moved here for the 'country life' aspect of a smaller community with wide open natural spaces.

While prayers are welcome for this man of great faith, Bob requested there not be any formal services upon his death. The family will celebrate Bob's life privately and he will be interned in the Astor Park Cemetery.

Cards to Jan are appreciated and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made in Bob's memory to the Hospice of Lake County, who were so helpful, thoughtful and caring in his last days on earth.
