Robert Lockard

1924 - 2024

Columbus Cpl. Robert Lockard, 99, of Columbus passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024; anticipating his 100th birthday, born October 18, 1924, in New Holland, Ohio he was the son of Sherman and Nellie (Clevenger) Lockard. Bob was a World War II veteran who proudly served his country as a member of The United States Army - Air Corps in The European Theater of Normandy, France. After returning home he studied for 3 years and received a Doctor of Internal Engine diploma. Later employed as automobile technician. Many of his family and friends have said that this was one of his best talents, of which he found great satisfaction in helping others. In 2017 Bob was invited back to tour Utah Beach France by the French Government having received the distinguished French Congressional Medal of Honor.

His many involvements included membership at Fellowship Baptist Church of Columbus Ohio, the Circleville Ohio National Guard, and the Soldiers Monumental Association. In 2018 Circleville High School graduated Bob, class of 1944, as part of their commencement ceremony.

Surviving, are his wife Cindy Lockard of Columbus, son, Jim (Julie) Lockard and their son Justin of Port Clinton, Ohio, daughters, Janet (Phil) Dixon of Gahanna Ohio, Joyce (Randy) Collins of West Jefferson, Ohio, also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phil and Judy Thomas of Ohio, and Jim Fox of California; remaining auto associates.

Bob was preceded in death by his first wife of over 60 years, M. Jane (Hulse) Lockard, his sisters Wanda Martindale and Anna Lockard, and his brothers Raymond, John, and Bernard Lockard.

Friends may call Thursday, September 19, 2024, 4-7 PM EVANS FUNERAL HOME 4171 E. Livingston Ave. where funeral service will be held Friday, September 20, 2024, at 12:00 noon. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.
