Robert Longfellow, born on March 9, 1925, in Galien, MI, lived a remarkable life filled with love, hard work, and service to his community. With his ever-present smile and infectious laughter, Robert touched the hearts of everyone he met. His radiant spirit and unwavering strength defined his 99 years of life, leaving an indelible impact on those fortunate enough to have known him.
Robert dedicated his professional life to ANR Pipeline as an Operating Engineer, where his meticulous nature and unyielding work ethic were highly valued. His commitment to his work was only surpassed by his devotion to his family. On August 7, 1948 in Glendora, Michigan Robert married Eleanor Louise Freehling. A loving father and grandfather, Robert's wisdom, kindness, and unique sense of humor will be fondly remembered and deeply missed. He was an active member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Baroda, MI, an Army Veteran and proud member of the Galien American Legion. His legacy is carried on by his daughters, Dolores (Marlin) Phillips and Nancy (K.C.) Cowden, grandchildren, Jeff (Jenny) Phillips, Julie Walker, Stephanie (Billy) Heckathorn, Roxanne Longfellow, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Longfellow; parents, Howard and Lena Longfellow; sons James and Jerry Longfellow, siblings Charles and Thomas Longfellow, and sisters Helen Dodd and Carmen Foster.
