Robert "Bob" E. Louvar, 81, died peacefully surrounded by family Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
A private burial will be held at Oakland Cemetery, Solon at a later date.
Robert was born April 19, 1944 in Solon, IA, the son of Edward and Emma (Krchmar) Louvar. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Solon, where they raised/farmed; cows, pigs, chickens, corn, hay, soybeans, clover seed and numerous fruit trees (apples, cherry and pear) and grapes. He was a 1962 graduate of Solon High School. Robert was united in marriage to Carrie Mason on December 31,1966 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City.
Robert served his country for 6 years in the US Army Reserves from 1965 to 1971, his rank was a Specialist 4. Robert did his basic training in Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. After basic training he went to Aberdeen Maine Proving Grounds for technical school where he learned mechanical and welding skills.
Robert was a hard worker, for many years he would put in a full day of work in a factory and would then go work on his parent's family farm, many times working there long after the sun had gone down. Robert worked as a mechanic for P & H Harnischfeger, Rockwell Goss Graphics, and CR Inc. and Centro Plastics until 2002, when his health forced him to retire from the work force earlier than he would have liked.
Robert loved fishing and hunting with all his brothers-in-law back in their younger days. He enjoyed going on family vacations in the Summer. His favorite vacation was to Yellowstone Park. Robert loved fast cars, his favorite car was his 1987 442 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. Robert's favorite hobby through the years was buying and restoring old John Deere tractors, so he and his lifelong friends could ride them in the local township parades and the WMT tractor rides around the state of Iowa for 11 years. Though Robert loved his tractors. By far his biggest joy in life was spending time with and talking about his 3 granddaughters and watching them grow up through the years and see what amazing young ladies they all are. He was a very proud Grandpa!
Robert is survived by his son Mat Louvar; daughter Melissa Louvar (Tim Wigger); grandchildren Morgan, Kira and Everlee Louvar; three siblings Carol (Larry) Allen, Janice (Bernie) Roberts, Sharon Jensen; Brother-in-law Bill Mason; Sister-in-law Juanita Mason, sister-in-law Mary (Steve) Clark; Brother-in-law Jim Donohue; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife Carrie of 50 years, parents Edward John and Emma Rosetta (Krchmar) Louvar, in-laws Chiles William and Mary Ethel (Vrchoticky) Mason, son Andy Louvar, infant grandson Everett Louvar, daughter-in-law Lauren Lee, daughter-in-law Nicki Raitt, nieces Meagan Russell and Stephanie Clark, great-nephew Grant Colbert and Sister-in-law Marsha Donohue.
Robert's family would like to thank everyone that helped keep Robert living independently at home for the last several years, he couldn't have done it without all of you!
Robert also wanted to say thank you and make sure that everyone knows how much he appreciated all of the help through the last several years, so he could continue living at home. To name some; his family for sharing homemade meals, all the phone calls to check in on him, all of the repairs he could no longer do himself, friends and neighbors for stopping by for a visit, the Ruzicka family for keeping an eye on him and helping out in so many ways, Jill and Dave Weetman for all of your time, hard-work and friendship. To all the volunteers with the Solon Senior Meals and Volunteers, the Solon Senior Support group that Robert had the pleasure of being their first real mission in 2019. Sue Randall for your friendship and kindness through the years and making sure he looked good all the way up to his last tractor ride, God Bless you. Lee Connell for your years of friendship and helping him keep his John Deere mower running and taking time to visit with him. Jay Proffit and your team for keeping his driveway and sidewalks cleared during the Winter. The numerous home health nurses through the years that went above and beyond. To the wonderful staff at the University of Iowa Dialysis Clinic in North Liberty and all his dialysis friends, he talked about all of you like you were family (and you were to him). To the Solon Fire and First Responders for your many assists, you are all greatly appreciated. To Amy and Kiley for helping with housework and getting him outside. To Johnson County Seats and the Non-Emergent Transport, that got him to his appointments. To the wonderful people at Towncrest pharmacy in Solon and Hy-Vee pharmacy for making sure he got his home deliveries. To the many nurses, aids, other staff and residences at the Solon Skilled Nursing Center that made sure he was taken care of and to the wonderful friends he made while he was there. His family will always remember all of you that were so kind to him and made sure he didn't feel alone, when his family couldn't be there. To Suncrest Hospice, for bringing smiles to his days and making sure he was comfortable.
Robert also wanted to make sure the Lensing family and staff know how much he appreciated all of you, helping guide his family these last several weeks and now, when he wasn't able too. It gave him great comfort knowing you were all so kind to his family, the extra time that was given to our individual situation, all of the compassion, empathy and support making sure his family was doing ok during this time.
