Robert Charles Lublow, age 98 years, 4 months, passed away at home in Saint Johns under home hospice care and with family on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
Bob was born June 22, 1927, in Coldwater, Michigan, the son of Edward Charles Lublow and Flora Etta (Birmingham) Lublow. He attended Coldwater High School, and in early 1945, with his parents' permission, joined the U.S. Navy for the duration of the war plus six months. After mustering out in late 1946, he returned to his parents' home and resumed classes to graduate with the Class of 1947.
During his senior year, Bob met Gladys Jean Mills, began dating, and spent free time together. On graduation night, in the hope of continuing and extending their relationship, he proposed and put an engagement ring on Jean's finger. It's apparent she said "yes," as the following October 1947, they were married in the Methodist Church in Coldwater. They celebrated 75 years of marriage in October 2022.
After their marriage, Bob was employed by a furniture manufacturer in Muskegon but followed in his father's footsteps by hiring into the General Telephone Company sometime in 1949 as a lineman. Over the years, he progressed through various positions-from a lineman working outside, to a switchman maintaining equipment in the telephone offices, to several office supervisor roles in different towns and cities around the state of Michigan. As the phone company merged and changed names a couple of times over the years, he finished his career as office supervisor in St. Johns after forty-some years with the company.
Throughout his life, Bob was an avid camper and fisherman with family and friends. He played golf from the early 1960s for over twenty years with the same group and was a hunter from his childhood years with his father, uncles, and coworkers through to the early 1980s. With his son-in-law, Dan Howland, he made the long drive to the Western Upper Peninsula for Michigan's November 15th opening of deer hunting season during most of those years.
Bob is survived by his son, Edward (Vicki) Lublow; daughter, Diane (Dan) Howland; grandsons, Edward Lublow III, Nicholas Richmond, Ryan Howland, Austin (Grace H.) Howland, Logan Howland, Robert (Janell) Hicks, and Brian (Heather) Hicks; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Erik) Perski; five great-granddaughters; six great-grandsons; and one great-great-grandson. He is also survived by a cousin, Linda Gunn and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; daughter, Sandra Hicks; father, Edward Lublow; mother, Flora Lublow; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Robert and Jean had been members of Pilgrim Global Methodist Church since 1986. Prior to that, they were members of the First Methodist Church in Saint Johns for many years.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 4-7PM, at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Pkwy, St. Johns.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, 12 Noon, at Pilgrim Global Methodist Church, 2965 W. Parks Road, St. Johns. Pastor Andy Croel officiating. Burial with Military Honors at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns. A luncheon will be held at the church following the graveside service.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Pilgrim Global Methodist Church, 2965 W. Parks Road, St. Johns MI 48879.
