Robert Luke

A Memorial Service will be held at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel, Walters, OK, 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2024 with Edward Eschiti officiating.
Robert Charles Luke was born to William Harold and Edith Loucille (Hurry) Luke on March 4, 1937 in Walters, OK and departed this life in Walters, OK on February 17, 2024 at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 13 days.
Robert grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1955. Passing on a full ride to the University of Oklahoma, he went to work for Halliburton as an operator. Starting in Duncan, he eventually relocated to Colorado with the company. He then moved to the DFW area working for Chrysler Corporation. He later worked for Cummins in Dallas as a mechanic and was promoted to foreman. He made a move to Tyler, TX, working for Hunsaker Truck Lease and later made a move to Iowa hired on with Johnsrud Transport working on tanker trucks. His last employment was in Albuquerque, NM as the service manager for Sun Land International.
Through the years Robert was fortunate, in his words, to have married several beautiful ladies: Sharon Adams in 1955 and to this union Robert Charles Jr. was born. In 1959 he married Val Jean Atherton and to this union, Gary, Keith and Kathy were born. In 1971 he married Sherry Daughtry and in 1991 he again wed Sharon Adams Deter. Retiring and leaving Albuquerque, he moved back to his hometown of Walters where he married his high school sweetheart, Joan (Robertson) Spannagel in 2002.
Robert enjoyed dirt track racing and built lots of automobiles in his day. He was a people person and could command a room. He enjoyed going to the coffee shop, and "telling lies" as he would say about his stories and jokes. He also loved just "prowling" around.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Gary Luke; his parents, William and Loucille Luke; his brother, Bill Luke; and his wife Joan in 2010.
Survivors include 3 children and spouses, Robert Charles "Chuck" Luke, Jr. and Shannon of Chickamauga, GA; Keith Luke of Celeste, TX; Kathryn Ann Barron and Richard of Dallas; his stepdaughter, Paula Herzfeld and Charles of Wichita Falls, TX; Bonus son, Dennis Michael Deter and Maureen of Rifle, Colorado; 4 grandchildren, Georganna Luke; Cody Luke; Armanda Ford and Nicole Glowicki; 6 great grandchildren; his brother Jim Luke and Rosalie of Laguna NM; other relatives and friends.
