Robert (Bob) Raymond Luyckx passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025. Robert was born in
Detroit, Michigan on January 21, 1932 to Edmund Luyckx and Helen Aylward. He met the love of his life, Mary Josephine Payette, on Grosse Ile, they married on December 28, 1957 and had five children.
Bob was raised in Detroit and joined the Marines in 1950 where he was an artillery observer in the Korean War. After proudly serving his country, he attended Meinzinger Art School in Detroit, and from there worked at General Motors for 40 years where he worked on numerous design projects. He retired in 1997 as chief designer of the Oldsmobile interior design studio. Bob was a hard working, well respected designer and artist.
Bob was also the "project manager" for countless projects for his extended family, from design to construction, he did it all! He would show up first thing in the morning, with his own tools, and get right to work. He was a perfectionist which showed up in all his finished projects.
Bob was as avid toy soldier collector, specializing in the Battle of Waterloo. He and Mary Jo attended many toy soldier shows over the years.
More than anything, Bob was the perfect example of a loving, family man. Even as his physical health declined, Bob was always grateful and kind to everyone who cared for him. A special thank you to Regina, Keisha and all the loving staff at Bellbrook for their selfless dedicated care. Bob will truly be remembered as the most patient, generous, and faithful person.
