Robert "Bobby" William Mackey, 84

Robert "Bobby" William Mackey, age 84, of Waddy, Ky., passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, at Maple Grove Senior Living. He was born on Jan. 23, 1941, in Frankfort, Ky. to the late J.W. and Louise (O'nan) Mackey. Robert grew up in Bald Knob and later moved with his parents to a farm in Waddy during his senior year of high school.
In Dec. of 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Rice Mackey, and they shared 64 years of marriage. Robert was a U.S. Army Veteran who served as a military policeman at Drake Kaserne, Frankfurt, Germany. He worked as a farmer and tool and die maker for many years before retiring from Leggett and Platt in Simpsonville.
A man of deep faith, Robert was an Elder Emeritus of Waddy Christian Church. He loved Jesus, his family and his friends well and was known as a faithful servant who gladly helped others. He enjoyed fishing, participating in primitive rendezvous and being outdoors.
He is preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Louise Mackey and grandson Austin Saylor.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Mackey; his daughter, Kim Rop (Jim); his sons, Jeff Mackey (Chrystal) and John Mackey (Nancy); his grandchildren, Cody Hulette (Audri), Taylor and Katie Rop, Lauren, Jake and Emily Mackey, Bri and Makayla Lam, Scott Saylor and Bo Mackey; and his great-grandchildren, Walker and Winona Hulette.
His family would like to thank the staff at Maple Grove Senior Living who gave him such wonderful care the past few years and especially these last few days. He loved each of you.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday Jan. 7, 2026, at the Shannon Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Rev. Tina Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to Waddy Christian Church Community Outreach.
