He was 73 chronological years old but with the spirit of a 7-year-old. Rob was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Madeline (Morra) MacLellan, his brother Daniel H. MacLellan, and his mother-in-law Harriet V. Gelfuso. Bob was survived by his patient and indulgent wife, Paula Gelfuso MacLellan who was also known as Nurse Ratched for her role over the past 7 years. Uncle Bob was also survived by his nephew, Kevin MacLellan, formerly of Maine and now a proud Rhode Islander, nephews Nicholas, Mark, Matthew (Wil) and Jonathan Gelfuso, of Rhode Island, Alexander Goetz of Los Angeles, and Annalise Goetz of Boulder. Uncle Robbie leaves behind one great-nephew and three great-nieces, two great-great nephews and three great-great nieces Maine as well as many cousins, dear friends and his very special godchild, Laurie Bouley.
Mac was an avid and accomplished golfer who cherished his memories of the many Camp David golf trips, rounds near and far with this father, his golf mentor and especially his achievement of playing the Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland, on his 60th birthday. As an Non Destructive Testing Technician, Bobby traveled extensively and before that lived in many places as an inspector at nuclear power plants and as a commercial diver. Robbie was a prolific and talented chef who enjoyed many Christmas Eves cooking the traditional seven fishes dinner with and for his uncles and their families and hosting his in-laws for holidays. In his youth, Robbie was a hockey player and later in life spent a lot of time on the slopes. He not only dove commercially but also enjoyed scuba diving on trips to the Caribbean and Europe.
Bob fell in love with cruising as a vacation shortly after falling in love with Paula and as a result was able to boast about sailing on over 70 ships. He enjoyed something about every one, but, as was his nature, he found something to complain about too. Toad also boasted about his friendships, some of which are over 60 years long. He had a way of attracting and keeping friends that is rare in today’s world.
He had a wonderful, full, adventurous life that ended much too soon but he left a lasting impression on all who knew him. For almost seven years Bob fought the consequences of a botched routine medical procedure. He suffered immeasurably due to the incompetence but was able to rally after each setback and continue living his best life. Rob was determined to enjoy himself until the very end.
