ROBERT MACLEOD Obituary

Of Medfield, Massachusetts, died on July 6, 2025, in Boston, at the age of 86. Born on January 17, 1939, in Boston, to Alexander and Mary Macleod of Dedham, Bob grew up in Dedham and Chappaquoit (Cape Cod), alongside his brothers, William and Eldon, keeping their mother on her toes. He graduated from Noble and Greenough School and earned his undergraduate degree from Trinity College. He later pursued graduate studies at Harvard Business School and Leeds University in England. Bob spent many years working with the Kendall Company, a healthcare-oriented firm, but his greatest passion was volunteer service. He dedicated thousands of hours to causes close to his heart, including land conservation, historic preservation (especially of cemeteries), and the Massachusetts 4-H youth development programs. An avid outdoorsman, Bob was a skilled sailor, cyclist, kayaker, and traveler. His daily walks on the Medfield Rail Trail towards the end of his life gave him much joy. He also maintained a small farm at his home in Medfield, where he raised Belted Galloway cattle, horses, donkeys, and chickens. Bob married Barbara "Bobsie" Wilmerding Macleod in 1967, and for 58 years, they made their home in Medfield. Bob is survived by his wife; his brother, William; his children, Ian, Morris, and Avery; and seven grandchildren, Robert "Bobby", Phoebe, Hannah, Melanie, William, Joshua, and Faith. He was predeceased by his brother, Eldon; and their parents, Alexander and Mary. Among Bob's final words were, "I've had a great ride," a reflection of a life well-lived and deeply loved. A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Upper Charles Conservation Land Trust, Inc., an organization Bob proudly supported throughout his life. Address: 654 Main Street, Medfield, MA 02052. www.uppercharles.org/

My condolences to the family. I worked closely with Bob when I was with the Massachusetts 4-H Foundation. He was a wonderful leader as Chairman of the Trustees for many years. He played on our golf team for the annual 4-H fundraiser for several years. Lots of laughs (we came in last place).

I remember him fondly. RIP Bob. Life well lived!

Bob was a great friend to me and my wife Carolyn! I served as a steward on the NHC board when he was president the last year and I learned so much hunt club history from him over many years. I enjoyed social events at his home and the many emails we shared on so many fronts. We shared a love of travel and good people.
We will miss his great smile, firm handshake and great friendship!
We will miss his friendship.

Love and sympathies,
Dominic and Carolyn

Is this the same Bob Macleod that served on the CRS board?

My prayers are with the family.

You certainly did have a great ride, Bob. We will miss you most of all for a great conversation and your love for the Kingsbury Pond, Grist Mill and the Medfield Rail Trail! All the best
Dick Judge.
Last but not least thank you for your contributions and advice in putting a new roof on the old Gristmill!
