Robert Madsen Obituary

Robert Andrew Madsen

1954-2025

- Robert Madsen, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother passed away on August 10th, 2025 after a multi-year struggle with dementia. Robert was born on May 22, 1954, to LaVee Baird and Frank Emil Madsen in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. He grew up in Manti, Utah, on a small, family-owned cattle ranch. He lived a country boy's life, helping on the farm and getting into mischief with his friends and brother. He enjoyed making homemade fireworks. He also rode in rodeos, competing in saddle bronc, bareback, and bull riding.

Robert lived in Manti until his early twenties, when he moved to Salt Lake City, where he resided for the rest of his life. There, he met the love of his life, Connie Campbell, a nurse at Primary Children's Hospital. He used to pedal his road bike up the steep avenues just for the chance to spend time with her on her lunch breaks. They were married on Valentine's Day in 1983 in the Salt Lake Temple. They eventually settled in Sugar House on Emigration Creek, right by Westminster College. Their only son, Andrew, was born in 1985, and they certainly spoiled him.

Robert had a passion for working with his hands. Whether it was crafting graphite composite parts for work, woodworking, or creating art, his craftsmanship was evident. His artistic creations ranged from paintings, sketches, stone and wood carvings, musical instruments, and even to Halloween costume designs. He had a deep interest in the animals, art, and culture of North America, Australia, and Africa. One of his favorite trips was a safari he took to Tanzania with his brother. They stayed for almost two weeks and photographed nearly every animal imaginable. Robert was an avid gardener who loved tropical plants and cacti of all kinds. He also loved fishing, although he swore it off every time he came home empty-handed.

Robert was an amazing caregiver, provider, and father. Throughout his wife's illness, he worked during the day and took care of her at night for over a decade until she passed away. He was an incredible father and an example of working hard for the benefit of those he loved.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Connie; his parents, Frank and LaVee Madsen; his parents-in-law, Vere and Laverna Campbell; and his in-laws, Galen and Susan Campbell, Jared Campbell, and Chiro Costanza. He is survived by his son, Andrew; his daughter-in-law, Tracy; his three grandchildren, Hadley, Eleanor, and Jack; his brother, Sterling; his sister, Lynette Costanza; his in-laws, Dirk and Kathy Horton, and Peter and Angie Jensen; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the care teams at Escalante at Coventry, AMG Medical, and Inspiration Hospice for the care they provided during his last few months.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, 2:00 p.m. at the Sugar House Ward Chapel, 1950 S 1200 E, Salt Lake City, with viewings from 1-1:45 p.m. prior to services and on Thursday, August 14, 2025, 6-8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy. Interment will be at Bountiful City Cemetery following the funeral.
