Robert Mahoney of Weymouth and formerly of South Boston passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026. Beloved husband of Brenda (Sparaco) Mahoney of 44 years. Beloved son of the late William "Windy" and Mary (O'Donnell) Mahoney. Brother to Dennis Mahoney and his wife Patricia of South Boston, brother-in-law to Kellie (Fitzgerald) Mahoney of South Boston, Joan (Baker) Mahoney of South Boston, and the late Paul "PK", John "Jacky", William "Billy" (ret. Sgt. Det. B.P.D.), Marianne, Elaine, James, Brian (ret, Ptl. B.P.D), and Michael Mahoney. Survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Born and raised in South Boston's "lower end", Robert was proud of his hometown and Irish heritage. Robert loved to travel with his wife and friends to Ireland and many other places abroad. He also enjoyed music, especially the live operas he attended at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, La Scala in Milan and the Vienna State Opera in Vienna.

Shortly after graduating from South Boston High School, Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force. His service included domestic tours of duty and extended tours in the Philippines and the Aleutian Islands off the coasts of Alaska and the United Soviet Socialist Republic. Upon his return to civilian life, Robert earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and psychology from Boston State Teachers' College and a Master of Arts degree in Human Resources Management from Emmanuel College. He served in his community as the academic administrator of South Boston Heights Academy for students in grades K – 12 and as a teacher where he taught and mentored high school students for more than a decade. After his career in education, he worked as a human resources administrator at Boston Medical Center until his retirement.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 146 Dorchester Street, South Boston, Saturday, January 31, 9:30 – 10:30 AM to share their favorite memories of Robert. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM at Gate of Heaven Church, 814 E 4th Street, South Boston. Interment is private at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, consider making a charitable donation in Robert's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or The Alzheimer's Foundation 225 N Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601 or a charity of your choosing.

Very sorry to read this. Mr. Mahoney taught me all about psychology at SBHA class of 1979.
Brenda, taught me the love of the French language.
2 great mentors.
