Robert Anthony Mancino passed on from this life Friday, November 28th, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in Hartford, CT, he was predeceased by his parents, Adam Mancino and Mae (Lindberg) of Meriden, CT and survived by his wife of fifty-one years Deanna (Benz) Mancino, son Nicholas, daughter Lauren, daughter-in-law Megan, grandson Kase, granddaughter Anna Mancino and sister Lynn Mancino. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law, two nephews and two nieces, four great nieces and nephews, as well as one godson and two goddaughters. A graduate of Maloney High School in Meriden, CT, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Norwich University in Northfield, VT and was later commissioned to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant having served in the United States Army and Army Reserves. He and the family took great pride in his being a Veteran. While at Norwich, he was a member of the varsity soccer team, created a circle of forever "Old Guard" soldier friends, and learned to "quack like a duck". "Bob" went on to receive his Master of Arts degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Connecticut.
Robert began his professional career with the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation and started teaching part-time at Hartford State Technical College in the Civil Technology Department. He was quickly promoted up the ranks to full Professor and Chair of the Department. He excelled in teaching, and his students respected him as their professor who was also a licensed professional engineer, providing professional engineering services to a variety of local businesses over many years. During this time, he was a member of the Bloomfield (CT) Jaycees and enjoyed playing softball and basketball, as well as participating in many community service projects. He retired from Capital Community College having been honored with the title of Professor Emertius.
Having enjoyed building a career, travel and many years of golf, he and his wife then focused on raising their two children. "Bobby" was the ultimate Dad and Dad coach: skilled, fair, at times demanding to get the best from his young players and knowledgeable. He also took many varied part-time positions such as recreation camp director with the town of Bloomfield, CT, and manufacturing assistant with an antique car part facility in Canton, CT. Once moved to South Carolina, he served on the council of the Sons of Italy, Lodge 2992. His love of golf continued throughout all his years, giving him the opportunity to lead the Myrtle Beach Players Group of golfers by organizing bi-weekly rounds of golf, special tournaments, and a yearly golf trip.
Robert was a true Renaissance man who could easily move from fishing on a lake or beach to crocheting a blanket for a loved one. He designed and built many home additions for his family and friends including two sheds and a cabin with his son and a variety of home improvement projects with his daughter. He also mastered the art of model ship building and coin collecting. He took pride in his family, was a loving husband, a loyal friend, and ever the pirate and dragon slayer at heart. He will be remembered with great love for his strong and gentle ways.
The family will gather as per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Project Golf, supporting Disabled Veterans and Underserved Youth @ projectgolf.org.
