It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Stelman Theodore "Ted" King Jr. Ted was born in
Hagerstown, Maryland, on December 3, 1945 and transitioned out of this life on February 24, 2026. Through his journey of 80 years, he touched many lives with his kindness, generosity, humor, artistic videos, and striking vocal talent and musical performances.
Ted began singing at an early age, where he is best known for his extraordinary singing and showmanship in the band, The Morticians. His performances are legendary to this day. He went on to sing in countless bands and continued to sing in church and social groups for the remainder of his life.
After graduating from North Hagerstown High School in 1963, Ted became a draftsman at M.P. Moller Pipe Organ Company in
Hagerstown, Maryland, designing elaborate and stunning pipe organs, many of which can still be seen and heard in churches across the Maryland/Pennsylvania area today.
Among many other milestones of his well-lived life, Ted proudly served in the United States Army from 1968-1970, where he became a skilled engineer. Upon returning home, he took a job at Bechtel Corporation, engineering piping for nuclear power plants.
He left Bechtel to open his own successful business, King Video Productions, where he was finally able to combine his creative drafting and engineering experience with his innate musical talent. He is renowned for his heartfelt, moving Event and Wedding videos, which he carefully crafted with love, personal touches, and perfection, until he retired.
If you didn't know Ted, you could see that he was a good-looking man, full of charm and wit. If you knew him, you also know that he was a loving, helpful to all, funny, and sometimes passionately loud and proud man! He deeply loved his family and friends, including a myriad of special fur babies throughout his lifetime. He was also a faithful servant of God and country, a golfer, and horror movie buff.
Ted is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith Ann Graff King, and his two sons,
Jay Austin King (wife, Dora King) and Alex Jerome King (S/O, Christina Cubel). Also, by his niece, Teresa Reed Barron, and his ex brother-in-law/best friend of 70 years, Earl Harper Conrad. Special mention of his "adopted by heart" children, Steve "Skip" and Dawn Ward, and their children, Morgan, Aria, Bella, and Killian Ward.
In addition to his parents, Stelman Theodore King, Sr. and Hilma Smith King, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lois King Reed and Don Reed; their children, Rick Reed and Cindy Reed Fisher.
Ted was a member of the Veteran's Administration and Coastal Church First Baptist Church, Murrell's Inlet, and member of The Praise Band and Choir.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Special thanks to everyone who helped us through this difficult time with their love, support, prayers, and delicious cuisine.
