Robert E. Marchant, 80 passed away peacefully at Crestview Care Center in Chadron, NE on August 18, 2024.
Robert “Bob” Marchant was born November 6, 1943 in Chadron, NE. He was the second of five children born to Arthur (Bruse) and Catherine (Jordon) Marchant.
Bob attended country school until the eighth grade. In 1962 he graduated from Assumption Academy High School in Chadron. He was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and track. After graduation he attended Chadron State College.
Bob married Judy Gatzemeyer and they have one daughter Cindi. They moved to Iowa where Bob began working for the C&NW railroad. After they divorced, he moved back to Nebraska and lived in Ravenna and Alliance and worked for the BNSF railroad until his retirement. After retiring he moved back to the family farm south of Chadron, where he farmed for many years before selling the farm and moving to Chadron.
His hobbies included boating, fishing and hunting which he enjoyed doing with his grandsons and nephews. He loved to visit about the cattle, his wheat crops, but his favorite thing to talk about was his border collie Sparky.
He went to Yuma, AZ (after deer season) and was a “Snowbird” for many years before he began traveling in his motorhome. He was a 40+ year member of the Eagles Club, Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance and St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Chadron.
Robert Marchant is survived by his daughter Cindi (Dale) Nielsen of Kilgore, NE; grandsons, Christopher Nielsen of Ogallala, NE and Casey Nielsen of Kilgore, NE; sister Norene (Steve) Jensen of Gering, NE; brother Donald (Laurie) Marchant of Kaw City, OK; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Dennis, brother Bill, sister-in-law Jean Marchant, nephew Dennis Marchant and Sparky.
Memorial has been established for St. Patrick Parish Life Center Capitol can be sent to Chamberlain Chapel.
Memorial Services will be held at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, NE on August 24, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. Father Todd will be officiating. Burial in the Calvery Cemetery.
