Robert William Martin-known to many who loved him as "Doc"-passed away on March 1st, 2026, at the age of 82. He was a beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, and friend, and he leaves behind a legacy of service that is woven into the fabric of
Parker, Colorado.
If you grew up in Parker, there's a good chance Doc cheered for you, coached you, worked on your teeth, or quietly helped make your town a better place. He had a gift for bringing people together and making them feel included with a constant infectious smile on his face.
Doc was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. He met his future wife, Kay, at Drake University. They graduated on June 6, 1966 (6/6/66), married 5 days later in Iowa, and began a lifetime that balanced hard work with true joy. In 1972 they moved to Colorado, eventually settling in Parker, where they raised their three children-Tim, Katie, and Ted-and made a home that became a gathering place for family and friends for decades. Kay passed away in 2017, but Doc held her close in his heart always. Their love story remained a cornerstone of the Martin family throughout their 51-year marriage.
Professionally, Doc spent his life in healthcare. After graduating from Drake, he worked as a pharmacist before following a calling into dentistry. He graduated from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 1972 and practiced dentistry until his retirement in 2005. He was proud of building a practice that patients trusted and a team that felt like family. One of his greatest professional joys was practicing alongside his eldest son, Tim, who graduated dental school in 1994. For years, father and son worked together at Martin Family Dentistry in Parker-serving neighbors, friends, and generations of families.
Outside the office, Doc's service and community leadership were legendary. He coached baseball, soccer, and softball; served as Cubmaster for the Boy Scouts; supported the Ponderosa High School Marching Band as a longtime bingo caller; and poured time and energy into Parker civic life in countless ways, including leadership at the Pinery Country Club and the Rotary Club . For Doc, "community" was not an abstract idea-it was the people in front of him.
Doc loved to travel, and he loved sharing travel with his family. Two places held a special place in his heart: Minocqua, Wisconsin-home to the family cabin on the lake-and Turks & Caicos-where he treasured time at the beach. He also loved Las Vegas and created a tradition of taking each of his children there when they turned 21, turning a simple vacation into a milestone memory.
Doc is survived by his younger brother Jack (Michelle) Martin of Aurora, Colorado; his late father's wife Mary Lou Martin of Lakewood, Colorado; and his children: Tim (Suzanne) Martin of Plains, Montana; Katie (Kyle) Trevillian of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Ted (Yasi) Martin of Denver, Colorado. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Nicholas (Emily), Joshua, Tyler, Caleb, Abigail, Ainsley, Kian, and Theodore.
Doc was deeply loved by his kids, grandkids, extended family, employees, and friends. He will be greatly missed, and his legacy will continue-in the people he cared for, the community he strengthened, and the family he cherished. A service and celebration of life will be held on April 11th at 2 PM at Joy Lutheran Church in Parker. In lieu of flowers, go buy your favorite candy and play a round of golf.
