Robert Lee "Bob" McDavid passed away on May 29, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. Born on May 9, 1952, to Thomas and Dorothy (Cochran) McDavid in Keosauqua. Bob's life was a testament to his dedication to family, service, and the simple joys of rural life.
Bob was a lifelong resident of the Bonaparte area, where the rolling hills and open skies shaped his character and work ethic. He attended school at Harmony. After completing his education, Bob found love and companionship with Vickie Dieterich and they were married on August 31, 1974; she passed away in 2010. Love found Bob once again when he married Vicki Mitchell in 2011, adding a new chapter of joy and partnership to his life.
In 1971, Bob answered the call of duty and joined the United States Army, serving his country with honor until 1978. His military service was a source of great pride and was commemorated through his active involvement with American Legion Beer-Barker Post 0113 in Keosauqua. Bob's professional life was marked by leadership and responsibility, having worked as a supervisor at Barker Specialty in Keosauqua and Walmart Warehouse in distribution in Mount Pleasant, and as a general manager at both WCAZ in Carthage, IL, and KXOF in Bloomfield. His work ethic and dedication to his roles were evident to all who worked alongside him.
Bob's passions extended beyond his professional life. He was a member of the Pony Express riders of Iowa, reflecting his love for horses and the open road. Hunting and side-by-side rides were among his favorite pastimes, as well as the simple pleasure of spending time with family and friends. These activities brought him immense joy and provided countless memories for those who were fortunate enough to share in them.
Bob's legacy is carried on by his beloved wife, Vicki, and his adoring children: Steven (Jentrie) McDavid of Vass, NC, Michelle (Doug) McCannon of Bonaparte, IA, Amy (Jeff) Krebill of Donnellson, IA, Emily (Josh) Neeley of Bonaparte, IA and Jami Butner of Ava, IL, a stepdaughter, Stephanie Asher of Bonaparte, IA, and a stepson Jeff Boyles of Bloomfield, IA. His sister, Mary Fett, also survives him. Bob was a proud grandfather to sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who will miss his warmth and guidance. His extended family includes three nieces and a nephew, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Vickie McDavid, his brother Steven L. McDavid, his sister Lorna Comeau, and his nephew Clay Dieterich.
Visitation with Bob's family will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Cranston Family Funeral Home in Keosauqua. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Harness Cemetery in Mount Sterling, where Rev. Bill Shewmaker will officiate.
