Robert McManus Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Costello-Runyon Funeral Home - Metuchen on May 22, 2024.
Robert F. McManus, Jr., 73, of Metuchen, beloved father, husband, grandfather, and friend passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones.
Robert was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on February 21, 1951. He attended Edison High School and graduated in 1969. After high school, he became a proud welder for the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 9 Union.
He is predeceased by his parents, Robert F. McManus, Sr. and Mary (n. Tortajada) McManus and his brother, Kenneth McManus.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Barbara (n. Anderson) McManus, his children, Bridget, Robert, and Robert's fiance Julia Blanchette, his godmother Rose Tortajada Sabovick, his goddaughter Cynthia Sabovick, and many beloved cousins, including Rosemary Bleich Sabovick, Billy Sabovick, and George Sabovick. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Robert Anderson and his wife Rita and his sister-in-law Patti Anderson Shaw. He is also survived by his long-time dear friends Tony and Elizabeth Padron and their family. Most importantly, he is survived by the light of his life - his grandson, Robert William McManus.
Robert's kindness and compassion could be felt by anyone he met and he loved spending time with his family. His proudest role was as a "Pop" who loved going on walks with his grandson and taking him to Le Peep in Edison for breakfast.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the health professionals of Robert Wood Johnson Visiting Nurses Hospice Group for their exemplary care.
The viewing will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. (Rt. 27) Metuchen.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 9:00am at St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen, followed by the interment at Resurrection Burial Park Cemetery, Piscataway.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be directed to the Rutgers Cancer Institute. If so inclined, donations can be made online at https://give.rutgersfoundation.org/fund-for-cinj/14899.html
