Joseph P. Monteleone

Joseph Peter Monteleone, 74, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 in Edison, NJ.

Born in Brooklyn, he obtained an B.A. degree from St. John's University, an M.S. degree from Hunter College, and a J.D. degree from New York Law School.

For over 40 years Joe practiced insurance law in New York and New Jersey. worked as a claims professional and executive at several companies and then as a law firm partner before establishing Catamount Services, where he offered arbitration, mediation and expert witness services. During his extensive professional career, Joe was a frequent speaker in the United States, Europe and Asia. He was also a prolific writer, including authoring or co-authoring 5 books, and received numerous awards.

Joe was an excellent cook and probably would have been a food critic if his love of the law ever abated. He enjoyed fishing and reading and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

Joe has been described as a devoted family man, a strong but gentle and quiet man, a true friend, trustworthy, kind and intuitive, a man with a brilliant legal mind and excellent memory, wise, and simply a wonderful human being. He was, in fact, all of that and much more. He will be deeply missed.

Joe is predeceased by his parents, Peter and Ann Monteleone. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Geraldine; his sons Matthew and Michael and their wives Lily and Kate, respectively; and his grandchildren, Mark, Sofia, Francesca and Emilia.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 10 A.M. at St. Joseph in Hillsborough, NJ. Inurnment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.
