Robert McMurry Obituary

Robert McMurry

August 31, 1938 - February 28, 2026

Lee's Summit, Missouri - Robert R "Bob" McMurry, of Lee's Summit, passed away Saturday evening, February 28th at St Luke's East Hospital at the age of 87. He was surrounded by love, with his adoring daughter Molly (Lang) and son-in-law Mark by his side.

Bob was born on August 31, 1938 in Hudson Falls, NY to Ernest Boisselle, Jr, and Helen (McMurry) Boisselle. Tragic circumstances ultimately brought him to the Kansas City area where he was raised by his maternal grandparents Edward and Dorothy (Walker) McMurry.

While his first years were spent at Northeast High School in KC, he finished up graduating from Lone Jack High School in 1956. After graduation, Bob enlisted in the US Air Force and served as Airman Second Class until 1960 when he was honorably discharged.

Once back in KC, he joined the electrical trade and become a journeyman electrician. Bob was a proud lifelong IBEW Local 124 member. His first job was working for George Ranallo Electric. By September 1966, he had met and married the love of his life--His "Suzie", Glenda Sue Raffurty of Kansas City, MO. They made a wonderful home and family together, putting roots down in Independence, MO after their wedding. Their son Robert Michael was born in 1969, followed by a daughter Molly Christine in 1979.

Eventually his career led him to become Lead Electrician at Children's Mercy Hospital, even winning Employee of the Yearin 2001. After a stroke and subsequent recovery, he decided to retire in 2005. We will always be grateful for the beautiful sendoff CMH gave him when he retired. It meant the world to him and his family.

Dad brought so much fun and joy to our family. There will never be another like him. He was the kindest, fairest, funniest man, and how lucky we were that he was ours! We will miss him endlessly.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Helen (McMurry) Boisselle, father Ernie Boisselle, Jr, his maternal grandparents Edward McMurry and Dorothy Presley, beloved Uncle Howard McMurry and wife Dorothy, Uncle Herschel McMurry and wife Phyllis, his Aunt Hazel (McMurry) Johnson, as well as brother-in-law Richard O. Raffurty. Finally, he was preceded in death by his son Robert Michael "Bobby" in 2020, and his beloved Susie, Glenda Sue in 2022. He is survived by his daughter and son-in- law Molly and Mark Lang, grandchildren Peyton McMurry, Leo Lang and Linley Lang, former daughter-in-law Teana Burks (Kyle) brother and sister-in-law Donald and Pamela Raffurty, sister-in-law Linda Raffurty, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

A Very special thanks to his St Luke's East nurse, Doctor and Chaplain that took such good care of him during that time. Additionally, heartfelt thanks to Addington Place Assisted Living of Lee's Summit for making him feel loved and at home. Finally, thank you to Ascend Hospice, especially Kelly and her amazing team.
