Robert Lee McSmith was born March 8, 1938, in California, the son of Forest & Viola Boyld McSmith. After high school, Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army. In 1963, Bob and his beloved Janet moved to South Georgia/North Florida where Bob worked as a maintenance supervisor for Florida State University. He was a member of Calvary Methodist Church in Tallahassee.
Bob was a caretaker at heart. He enjoyed working in the yard tending his plants and helping keep Cool Springs Cemetery in order. He tinkered on cars at home after spending several years in the shop at Kinnebrew Motors. Bob particularly enjoyed fishing on Lake Okeechobee and never failed to share the story of the “one that got away.”
Survivors include his children, Robby McSmith and Donna Holden (Perry); his grandchildren, Tyler and Dallyn; and his siblings, Bill Cagley, Donald Cagley, and Velenda Seward. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Janet Brown McSmith; his parents, Forest McSmith and Harry & Viola Boyld Cagley; his sister, Mary Hamilton; and his grandson, Clayton.
