Robert “Bob” Mello, 88, of Providence, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Dolores (Matteo) Mello for 65 years. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Manuel and Yvonne (Provencher) Mello.
Bob was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army with dedication and honor. After returning from the war, Bob was a supervisor for Almac’s Supermarkets, where he was known for his hard work, dedication, and leadership. Bob, with his wife Dolores, operated Bob’s Deli and sandwich shop, in Eagle Park for many years. Along with his daughter Lori, Bob’s Deli became a cornerstone of the community. Bob also worked for Benny’s fine catering in Providence for many years.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his cherished son, Robert Mello and his wife Laura, and his treasured grandchildren, Elena and Matthew Mello. He was the father of the late Lori A. Mello and brother of the late Richard Mello, Manuel Mello Jr., and Walter Mello.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence. Visitation will also be held Wednesday morning, January 8, 2025 at 10 a.m. in St. Ann Church, 280 Hawkins St., Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
