Robert Melsom Obituary
NORTH GREENBUSH - Robert W. Melsom, 94, died Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Van Rensselaer Manor, surrounded by his loving family.
Beloved husband of the late Barbara Fish Melsom, who died January 12, 2001. Son of the late John W. and May Rogers Melsom. Father of Nancy (Robert) Fiedler of Wilmington, N.C., Janice Melsom of Baltimore, Md., and "Jack" John R. (Debi) Melsom of Brunswick, N.Y. Also survived by his grandchildren, Justin (Jennifer) Fiedler of Baltimore, Md.; and their children, Taylor and Alice; Megan (Constantine) Kanellis of Troy; and their children, Costa, Theo and Stella; Sydney (Gerry) Willson of Troy; and their children, Luka and Jack (expected soon); Connor (Alexandria) Sanchez of Baltimore, Md.; and their children, Atlas and Griffin; and Lindsay (Jacob) Massey of Columbia, Md.; and their daughter, Nora.
He was a graduate of Troy High School and attended the evening division of Russell Sage College. He was in the Insurance business for over 40 years, serving as Vice President of Geer-Stillman Associates, then the Lawrence Group. In retirement, he also worked at the Brunswick Town Beach.
He participated in community activities including the Kiwanis Club of Troy and Salvation Army. Throughout his life, he enjoyed camping, square dancing, golfing, and playing bridge with friends. He served as a deacon, trustee and elder at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church (Troy), and as an elder of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Brunswick, (Brunswick Church). Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob's family sends their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Van Rensselaer Manor, Unit B2, for the excellent care provided to him over the last four years.
Relatives and friends may call, at the Brunswick Church, 42 White Church Lane, Troy, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 1:00-1:45 p.m., with a memorial service to follow, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Harry Heintz, former Pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Robert W. Melsom to the Brunswick Church Entrance Beautification Fund or Community Hospice of Rensselaer County. Once again I would like to give my sincere condolences! I was very fortunate to help care for Mr.Melson at VRM! I as all loved to talk and listen to all the history he had about Troy and his life in Troy as well as the love he had for his Family and Troy! I Truly am honored to have been given the chance to help take care of Mr. Melson! I know he would always say to me call me "Bob"! I just really liked to call out his name like Denis the Menace " Oh Mr.Melson"! I too grew u on Stowe Hill in "76" all the fabulous history he shared with me and I with him about the "Hill" ( Stowe hill) was awesome! We also shared how much he loved his family! He truly will be missed. Thank you to the Melson Family for sharing him with me truly an honor Thank you all my love, Maria J. VRM

To Bob´s Family, I worked with Bob most of my Insurance career at Geer-Stillman, The Lawrence Group and when I worked for The Colonial Agency. I have many fond memories of working with Bob for many years, he was a wonderful Boss. My Sympathies to all his family. RIP Bob

To the Melsom family, Bob was a wonderful, wonderful man. He worked in the gift shop at Samaritan for years, but 10 of the years that I was there he was my guy he could sell straw hats to Eskimos. Bob will be missed by many he always had a story. He knew everybody.

I will always remember his stories! He had stories about his family, about the history of the Brunswick Church (he was a big part of that history), stories about mutual friends....his memory at 94 was amazing. He was a good friend and I will miss him. My condolences to you and yours, Nancy, Janice and Jack.
