Sgt Blanding was my Drill Instructor (DI), while I was a Marine recruit. More specifically, he was my DI during the summer of 1991, with Platoon 1098. WHAT A MARINE! He was an outstanding Marine who molded civilians into Marines. He honorably served our nation... my thoughts and prayers are with the Blanding family at this difficult time.
