Robert E. Merrow

Robert Eugene Merrow, 84 of Decatur, IL, passed away at home on February 17, 2026, in Taylor, MI.

Robert was born on January 5, 1942, in Joliet, IL, son of Lee Merrow and Delana Boyd. He enjoyed bowling,

fishing, and karate, along with playing bingo and fishing games with his daughter. He was married to Joan Scruby

for 24 years prior to her death in 2017. He was previously married to Bobetta J. Travis for 27 years before parting

ways in 1993. She passed in June of 2022.

Robert served in the US Navy and aboard the USS Vigor during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1964. He worked as a

cabinet maker prior to being employed at A.E. Staley, where he worked for approximately 20 years. He left

Decatur in 1992 and moved to South Carolina. He later met Joan. They lived in South Carolina, Florida, and Ohio

prior to her death in 2017. Robert moved back to Decatur, IL in 2017 after Joan passed and then moved to Allen

Park, Michigan in 2023.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard, Barry, Michael, and sister Diane, and his late wife,

Joan.

Robert is survived by his brothers, Francis (Norrine) Merrow and Darrell (Jannet) Merrow; Children: Kimberly

(Loren) Stachak, Cheryl Kunz, Robert (Angela) Merrow, Dave (Lori) Scruby, John Scruby, and Kimberly M.

Merrow. Grandchildren: Jessica (Zach) Stachak-Miller, Trey (Samantha) Rock, Angeline Adam, Kayli (Allen)

Massey, Mikey (Stephanie) Taylor, William Merrow, Gage Dillman, Zachery Marcum, Trinity Estepp, and Alessia

Scruby. Great-Grandchildren: Nora and Charlotte Adam, Amelia Rock, Elijah Massey, James, Brighton, and

Logan Taylor, and Mylo Lopez.

He loved his family. His smile and blue eyes were full of love and happiness when he was around family and

friends and when looking at all the family photos. He will be missed by all of us.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at LaRue Cemetery in LaRue, Ohio Saturday, February 21, 2026

at 10:00 a.m. and a Celebration of Life get together will be held in Decatur - More details to come.

The family would like to extend special recognition to all his loving caregivers, especially Sandra, Elaine, and

Jamal, along with the rest of the staff over the years at Beechwood Senior care home, assistance from (Destiny

and Elaine) with The Info Center, and his nurse, Melissa, with Comfort Care - Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to The Alzheimer's Association in memory of Robert E. Merrow.
