ROBERT L. MESSER, age 88, went home after a lingering illness on November 16, 2023. Robert was saved about 15 years ago. He was very active in the community for years and was a member of the Rescue Squad. He worked on several jobs over the years, and owned and operated several grocery stores. He retired from Carson Newman University with over 30 years of service. Preceded in death by his parents, Salie and Edith Messer; wife of 45 years, Mary Ruth Messer; son, Glenn Messer; granddaughter, Lisa Stout; sister, Betty Jean Ingram.  He is survived by her caregiver granddaughter, Misty Hannah; sons, Bobby Messer and wife Donna, Johnny Messer and wife Becky; grandson, Shannon Messer; great-grandchildren, Denver and Lee Stout and Chris Hannah; brother, Ralph Messer and wife Sherry; several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 20, 2023 at Farrar Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Scott Ingram and Rev. Ralph Messer officiating. Family and friends will gather at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday morning at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery for an 11:00 a. m. graveside service. The family will be at the home of Bobby and Donna Messer.
