Robert (Bob) C. Miller, Age 82, of Mississippi, formerly of Chicago. Devoted husband to Patricia, father of Bryan (Liping), Leila, Toby, Kelly, Jimmy, and Jack; dear brother to Ronald (Barbara), Scott, Richard (Linda), and Deborah (Michael). Fond grandfather, great grandfather, and cousin to many.

Bob served four years in the U.S. Air Force and parlayed the skills he acquired in the service into a long and successful career in Systems Management and as Manager of Financial Systems while employed with the Sacred Heart League, the Chicago Board of Education, and the Chicago Police Department.

In 1982, Bob became a founding member of the Chicago Police Department Bagpipes & Drums of the Emerald Society. He played the bagpipes and proudly wore the kilt in many of Chicago’s storied St. Patrick’s Day parades. In later years, on a trip to Ireland to explore Pat’s Irish roots, it was Bob who was named honorary mayor of Carlo City in the county of Carlo, Ireland.

Bob has been described as an honorable and dependable man. He was a dedicated member of the Pelahatchie American Legion Post #171 and served as Commander for several years.

Bob had a gregarious sense of humor but was known to scare the hell out of folks on occasion. Little did they know that there was a big teddy bear hiding inside that gruff exterior.

Bob was the original “Bob the Builder.” He could add an addition to the house, relocate a fireplace or window, and even install a swimming pool. He was an expert on all plumbing and electrical projects and was always on-call with a resolution for others’ home maintenance emergencies.

Bob loved hard salami, a good steak at Gene & Georgetti’s, and was known to order a Manny’s corned beef sandwich on occasion.

Bob was an avid model train aficionado, relished snorkeling in the Caribbean, and piloted numerous family vacations to go camping, skiing, fishing, hiking, and to Disneyworld.

Bob’s family Is deeply grateful for the wonderful care he received from Baptist In-home Hospice.
