Robert Monroe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Patrick T Lanigan Funeral Home - East Pittsburgh on Dec. 15, 2025.
Lifelong resident of North Braddock, age 72, passed away in his home surrounded by family, on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

Born the son of the late Gordon J. Monroe, Sr. and the late Dorothy (Murphy) Monroe.

Beloved husband of Donna (George) Monroe for 52 wonderful years.

Loving father of Jennifer (Brian Sr.) Kelly of North Braddock and Kristi (John) Whitney of Penn Township.

Adored Pap of Robert (Cindy) McDonald, Brianna (Jack Kilgore) McDonald, Brian Kelly, Jr., Bradley Whitney, and Carson Whitney. Great grandfather of Madeline Claire McDonald.

Dear brother of James (Catherine Egnatz) Monroe and the late Gordon J. Monroe, Jr.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Pete was proud to have been raised on Franklin Street in North Braddock, he was also a 1971 graduate of North Braddock Scott High School. His commitment to his hometown was evident through the extensive years of service as a borough employee and a lifelong volunteer fire fighter. Pete was employed by the Borough of North Braddock for 38 years before retiring in 2023, beginning as a dispatcher, much like his late father, Gordon. Pete's versatility shined brightly as he took on roles from master mechanic to snowplow driver, always ensuring the borough's needs were met with excellence.

His love for his work was matched only by his passion for public safety. Pete was honored to have been a lifetime member of the North Braddock Volunteer Fire Department, where he also served as Borough Fire Chief, Department Fire Chief, and held numerous other officer positions. He was pleased to have followed in the footsteps of his father as a second-generation firefighter. Pete was a familiar and friendly face at the fire department's fish fry's and street fairs, volunteering his time and energy to bring joy to others. As the Emergency Management Coordinator for North Braddock, Pete's leadership and foresight were instrumental in safeguarding the community he so deeply cared for.

His love for the outdoors was evident as he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and cherishing moments of relaxation on his boat in Erie, PA. Pete was also well known for his skilled moves on the dance floor. He was a social member of Club 206, Sokol Hall, and the AMVETS Post 60. Pete's selfless nature left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered, and his patriotism was a source of inspiration.

Above all else was Pete's love for his family. His high school sweetheart, Donna, was the love of his life, and his children and grandchildren brought him joy that was irreplaceable.

Peanuts and I grew up on Franklin Street in North Braddock. We had some great times growing up. He was a great guy and a very good mechanic. I taught his daughter, Kristi, and I use to tell her about her Dad. He will be missed, but we will see him again one day. Our sympathy for Donna and the rest of his family.
