Robert "Bobby" Joe Morney, age 81, of
Albia, IA, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa, IA.
Bobby was born on June 8, 1944, in Iowa City, IA, to John "Edward" and Mary "Joanna" (Cooper) Morney. He grew up attending school in Albia, graduating from Albia High School with the Class of 1963.
After graduating, Bobby began his working career with Fluok-Daniels Construction before spending 18 years at Chamberlains. He later worked at Albia Motor Company in Albia, where he was a devoted employee for over 20 years. Bobby was a hard worker who was always full of energy and could often be seen tending to the outdoor work at Benton Place Apartments in recent years.
Bobby was a past President of the Albia Eagles Club as well as a member of the Iowa State Eagles Hall of Fame. Music was a lifelong passion for him and he had a captivating singing voice. He was truly one of a kind- a gifted entertainer who lit up every room he walked into. Bobby was a talented drummer and enjoyed singing with different bands, including Blue Earth and Black Horse. He was the life of every party and loved karaoke and dancing. He was known for his quick wit, great sense of humor and unforgettable one-liners and many in Albia referred to him as a "legend" or "one in a million." In his younger years, Bobby enjoyed tap dancing, playing the trumpet, and roller skating. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Dodgers fan. He enjoyed being outdoors and took pride in meticulous yard work. Bobby never knew a stranger and was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Bobby is survived by 3 nieces, Pam (Robert Earl) Teague, Tammy Morney, and Angie Johnson; 4 nephews, James Morney Jr., Rod (Charlotte) Morney, Aaron Morney, and Wendell (Lynette) Morney; a sister-in-law, Carol Morney; and special friend, Garnett Lantiser. Bobby is also survived by several cousins and countless good friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Joanna Morney; a sister, Dorothy 4 brothers, Wendell, Harold "Bud", James, and Jerry; and a nephew, Ronald Morney.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Bobby's family present to greet family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia. Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia.
Memorials have been established to the Albia Community High School for the sports department and the Albia Eagles Club.
