Robert Mullikin Obituary

Published by Treadway & Wigger Funeral Chapel - Napa on Nov. 8, 2013.
Robert (Bob) Mullikin was born in Phoenix, Arizona on October 22, 1931. He learned riding and roping from World Champion trick cowboy Leonard Stroud during his childhood in Rocky Ford, Colorado. He and his family moved to Alameda, California when his father got a job at the shipyard during WWII. He gained a love of boxing in Oakland and was later on the Army Boxing Team while stationed at Fort Ord during the Korean War. In 1954, Bob matriculated to UC Berkeley while working a night shift warehouse job at PG&E. In 1978, PG&E sent Bob to Stanford for an intense summer executive MBA program. He went on to an illustrious 36 year career with PG&E which included engineer recruitment, Napa-Vallejo district management, and supervising and relicensing of hydroelectric and nuclear plants in Northern California. Bob was a devoted Rotarian, serving for decades at the Noon Rotary Club in Napa. In 1994-1995 he was President of the Rotary, raising $50, 000 for the Napa Technical High School – the most ever at that point raised by any Napa Rotary philanthropy endeavor. Bob was a board member for the Napa County Mental Health Association. He was appointed by Governor Ronald Reagan to the Board of Directors for Sonoma State Hospital and served as President of the Board for several years. He was active in the organization "If Given A Chance", raising scholarships for disadvantaged youth in Napa. In 1955, Bob married Marilyn Goforth and together they had 5 children: Michael, Scott, Kevin, Timothy, and Lisa. Bob fulfilled his love of being a cowboy by raising his family on ranches in Cotati, Napa, Salinas, and Chico. He instilled a strong work ethic in his children and was very proud of each of them. He is survived by his 5 children: Mike (Jackie), Scott (Lori), Kevin (Sandra), Tim (Kristen), and Lisa (Dennis); 16 grandchildren: Shilo, Shandy, Lacie, Danny, Shane, Cody, Ben, Justin, Maria, Savannah, Tanner, Dillon, Megan, Brandon, Ariel, and Bryan; and 4 great-grandchildren: Hayden, Jack, Daxton, and Jace; his sister Pat Wiegardt (Al) and their children, and his long-time companion, Nan Clark of Napa. Bob always lived life to the fullest, remarking that his only regret was not riding the rodeo circuit. Happy trails, Bob! Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Bob Mullikin was one of my greatest supporters during my time in college and after my graduation while I worked in the summer program for college students at PGE. He actually encouraged and aided me in continuing my career with PGE in San Francisco, CA. He was as the DM in PGE´s Vallejo, CA office, fair and a great leader. Always had a smile and encouragement for everyone, he was well respected and I will remember him a mentor and knew how to communicate with everyone he came in contact with. He will be missed.

Many of us had the privilege of visiting Mr. Mullikin in the past few months. He was an engaging gentleman and always so gracious. I will miss him.
