Robert Murray Obituary

Robert Carl Murray, 76, of Latrobe, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born July 22, 1948, in Latrobe, the son of the late Lois (Baker) Murray. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Laurence W. and Ethel I. (Hill) Baker; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rose and Francis Ridilla. Bob is survived by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Gloria R. (Ridilla) Murray of Latrobe; four daughters, Carla Mattioli, Christy West and her husband, Jason, Jenna Murray-Triplett and husband, Kiel Triplett, and Justine Reinbold and her husband, Greg, all of Latrobe; grandchildren, Kyle Mattioli and his fiancee, Maria Cawoski, Ryan Mattioli, Calli Mattioli and her fiance, Ty Ferlin, Declan Mattioli, Alexus Mattioli and her boyfriend, Jacob Brisky, Owen Schreffler, Colin West, Addison West, Henry Reinbold, and Emilie Reinbold, all of Latrobe; and one great-grandson on the way. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Francine Burd (Robert), Susan Deichert (David), and Beth O'Neill (Patrick), all of Latrobe, and Mary Ghiorzi (Al) of Lovettsville, VA; brother-in-law, Francis Ridilla (Joyce) of Ebensburg; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as special neighbors, Josh and Melissa Cunningham, John and Cheryl Bolish, and Randy and Paula Albright. Bob spent many years as the head of maintenance at Christ the Divine Teacher School and Holy Family Catholic Church, earning a reputation as a handyman capable of fixing just about anything. Following his career at Holy Family and C.D.T., Bob was a school bus driver for Greater Latrobe School District. He truly enjoyed his years interacting with students, teachers, and coaches while transporting them to and from school and sporting events, and he was well-liked by all. He was a true sports fan, but a bigger fan of his grandchildren. "Pappy Bob" supported them at Little League, Teener League, Legion baseball, youth and scholastic basketball, softball, football, and lacrosse games. He was an avid fan of the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates. Also, Bob was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles #01188, and the Latrobe Foundry Bowling League. He loved to tell stories, crack jokes, and play "Poverty Poker" with friends and family. Bob's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Excela Health Home Care and Hospice, especially nurses Connie and Kaylee and aide Jenny, who helped care for Bob near the end of his four-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m., Friday, May 16, 2025, and 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME LLC, 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Holy Family Church, Latrobe, with the Rev. E. George Saletrik as celebrant. Interment is private. My condolences to Gloria and her family. Bob was a great friend during my time living in Latrobe. Will always remember summer Sundays when we would have volleyball at his house and the time he built his daughters play house in his garage and it was to tall to get out the garage door. He will surely be missed by all. Rest in peace Bob and may heaven be filled with endless handyman projects for you.

Thanks for being my friend.
