Robert A. Myers, born on November 5, 1938 in Little River, KS, passed away on November 6, 2025. He turned 87 years old the day prior and enjoyed a great day with family and friends.
Robert, known affectionately to many as Bob, Ocky, and Doc, was a friend to all and beloved by his family, friends, co-workers, former students, and crop insurance colleagues and customers. He never knew a stranger and was passionate about history, politics, and people. He was a voracious reader, enjoyed his morning coffee group at McDonalds, and his Sunday morning breakfast and Wal-Mart trips with friend Ed Lietzke. He was a fan of the University of Wyoming athletic teams, all Denver professional sport teams, the New York Yankees, Josh Allen, and whichever university his son worked at with the possible exception of Colorado State University due to their long-standing rivalry with Wyoming. He was known for his big heart, loud voice and laugh, love of his family, and his unwillingness to slow down as he entered the traditional retirement years. He loved the blues and outlaw country music and was listening or watching political programming when music wasn't playing. He was a proud member of All Saints and Prince of Peace Episcopal Church his entire 59 years in Sterling.
Born in Little River, Kansas to Leslie and Elizabeth Myers, he grew up in town with sisters Meredith and Phyllis, but spent time helping his father with farm work. He was a good high school athlete and played football and ran track. He graduated from Little River High School in 1956 and attended Washburn University in Topeka. He left Washburn to serve in the Wyoming Air National Guard. After training and service, he returned to school at the University of Wyoming, an institution that was special to him and his family. He graduated with both his bachelor and master degrees from UW. After college, he accepted his first teaching position in Glen Rock, Wyoming, where he spent a handful of years. An open teaching position at Sterling High School brought him to Sterling, Colorado in 1966 and he spent the next 31 years teaching history, driver's education, and US government. He also served variously as the athletic trainer, senior class advisor, and social studies department chair. After concluding his teaching career, he jumped into his next career as a crop insurance adjuster, something he enjoyed immensely for the remainder of his life.
Robert met his wife, Marilyn Severance of Merino, CO, in 1971 and they were married on June 10, 1972. They brought two children into the world, Stephanie Noelle on January 16, 1975 and Leslie Charles on May 24, 1977. Stephanie brought his only grandchild into the world, Christopher Pannunzio IV, on March 30, 2000. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who committed his time and energy to loudly cheering on the various pursuits of his children. He planned special summer vacation trips for the family which gave them all many special experiences and memories from coast to coast.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Elizabeth, father and mother in-law Charles and Lenore Severance, brothers in-law Roger Severance, Paul Peterson, Grant Davis, sister in-law Shirley Severance, and nephews Gary Rader and John "Alex" Severance-Medaris. He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Sterling, daughter Stephanie of Sterling, son Les of Blacksburg, VA, grandson Chris of Sterling, sister Meredith Davis of Little River, KS, sister Phyllis (Nick) Baumgartner of Cleveland, OH, sister in-law Kathy Severance (George Medaris) of Canon City, CO, sister in-law Laurina Cullip of Sterling, various nieces and nephews, and many special friends, including Ed Lietzke of Sterling.
There will be a funeral service Friday, November 14th at 11am at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church (201 Phelps Street) and a meal and celebration of life will follow at 1pm hosted by The Hot Spot Smokehouse at Sky Ranch Golf Course (17408 CO-14).
Memorial donations can be made in Robert's name to the Sterling High School Athletics department (contact athletic director Kyle Arnoldy at [email protected]) or the University of Wyoming athletics department (cowboyjoeclub.com).

I cannot take credit for this but saw in a Drs office. It said, "people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people NEVER forget, how you make them feel!! This was Bob in a nutshell. Such a kind and warm person, and dear friend, Rest in Peace, ole buddy,
Sincerely, and our love, Steve and Joan Walker
