Robert L. Nagel Jr., a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 12:55 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Silver Oaks Campus at the age of 79.
Robert was born in Dayton, Ohio, July 4, 1944, the second child born to Robert L. Nagel Sr. and Kathryn E. Franks Nagel. On October 22, 1966, Robert married Linda L. Luenebrink; she survives.
Robert was a member of the 1962 graduating class of Columbus High School. In 1963, Robert started his banking career at Irwin Union Bank. He left the bank to serve in the U.S. Air Force Reserves in August 1965. He would return to Irwin Union Bank and he retired in 1996 after 33 years of service. After retirement, Robert started Nagel Construction, Inc.
Robert was an avid golfer and he cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. Robert will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
His life will be cherished by his wife of 57 years, Linda; children, Kevin (Amy) Nagel of Columbus and Kelly (Max) Thomas of Columbus; grandchildren, Jackson Nagel of Chicago, Holly Nagel of Columbus, Kyle Thomas of Columbus and Jenna Thomas of Columbus; sister, Robin (Jake) Book of Tipp City, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2024, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church – Waymansville; Pastor Erik Sorenson will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Robert will be laid to rest at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery – Waymansville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church – Waymansville or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
