Robert Ivar Nelson

We lost a good man on December 19th when Bob Ivar Nelson,74, of Morton Grove, left us after dealing with the scourge that is cancer for eleven years. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Roberta "Bert", nee VandenBrook and his sons Christopher (Evie) of Villa Park IL and Cory (Tomoe) of Shioya, Japan, and precious grandson Julius Ivar. Predeceased by his parents Ivar Victor Jr. and Alice Nelson. Younger brother to the late Karin (the late Marvin) Manteuffel and Kathy Hopper. Uncle to Kristin, Kathryn, Tim (Suzy), Greg, Kyle and Great Uncle to Kristin's daughter Mia.

Bob loved many things: his family, guitars, writing songs, old cars, fishing, and collecting old fishing items. He loved a good joke, and especially bad ones. Bob was a UPS man for over 30 years, with routes in Morton Grove, Skokie, and Evanston. After retirement, he was Mr. Bob at Park View School for eight years, where he entertained kids in the cafeteria with jokes and magic tricks. Bob also had the uncanny ability of riling up pet cats and had the scratches to prove it. He could build things and fix things, which was handy since we lived in a 1914 Sears House. Bob kept his exceptional sense of humor until the end.
