Robert Edwin "Bob Ed" Newham, 79, of Norborne, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at North Kansas City Hospital.
Bob Ed was born on September 4, 1945, in Carroll County, the son of Wendell Carson and Fern Elizabeth (Early) Newham. He was united in marriage to Carol Ann Mansur of Stet on July 6, 1966; she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include: two sons, Michael Clifton Newham (Lara McCombs) and Ryan Keith (Cara) Newham, both of Norborne; two grandchildren, Kaleb (Bryanna) Newham of Norborne, Maddie Newham of Manhattan, KS; great-granddaughter, Reno Newham; two sisters: Beth Newham of Independence and Sandy (Lonnie) McIntyre of Millville; and brother, Kent (Debbie) Newham of Hardin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda Vansandt.
Bob Ed was raised and educated in the area of his birth, first attending Central School in Rockingham before graduating from Stet High School with the Class of 1963. After high school, he pursued college until he was drafted to serve in Vietnam. With great pride, he answered the call to duty, serving in the United States Infantry during the Vietnam War. His bravery and dedication earned him numerous medals and citations for valor. He was honorably discharged in 1968.
Upon returning home, Bob Ed embraced his lifelong passion for farming, working the land in the place he loved most. He took great pride in raising row crops and livestock, always striving to be a responsible and dedicated steward of the land. Farming wasn't just his profession-it was his way of life, one he cherished deeply. He was a member of the Rockingham Church of the Brethren.
Above all, Bob Ed was a devoted family man-a loving husband, father, and grandfather who found his greatest joy in the company of those he loved. His kindness, hard work, and unwavering dedication to his family and farm will always be remembered. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Antioch Cemetery, Norborne. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
